Australian Aborigines threaten demonstrations at Sydney 2000 Olympics

Lois O'Donoghue, the former chairperson of ATSIC (Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander Commission), a stautory federal government
body, spoke today at the Canberra press club in a matter of fact
manner about possible responses to changes in Native Title
legislation.

If changes are made in a non negotiated and agreed way then marches
and demonstrations will be seen again and the Sydney 2000 Olympics
will be used as a platform, she indicated.

I am pleased to see Aborigines might get practical use from the
staging of an expensive, irrelevant and dubious event (Sydney Olympics
in 2000) which will reward successful cheats and which is almost
certain to be a loser for the Australian public in terms of return on
public expenditure.

Why is this not a surprise ?
They did the same thing to the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane.
Yawn.

It's not that bad... We should hopefully be out of debt a quarter of a
century after the games are finished providing that state and federal
taxes are increased and other means are found to usurp revenue by our
intrepid politicians.

Give our restless natives a go..  They may as well get something out
of the event.  I would hate to think that the millions spent was a
total waste of funds.

Cheers...                       B. Schwartz
