Anyone try the ASICS GT-2001?

Post by Bryan Maxwel » Wed, 21 Jun 1995 04:00:00

I am 6'1" and 190#. Run approx. 30-40 mi/wk. My NIKE Analogs are dead and I hate my AIR MAX
TRIAX, so am looking to maybe go back to ASICS.
The 2001 claims to have a wide toebox. Any opinions on the shoe?

Someone told me that it is one of the few running shoes that include
'arch support'

I'm currently working on my second pair of 2001's, and now I can't wear
anything else (I'm one of those who flamed the Saucony 5000's).  I run
about 35 miles/wk. The arch support is great, and ***ing.  I don't
think the toebox is particularly wide, but they're comfy on my feet, which
may be slightly wider than average in the toes.  They're less cushiony
than some other shoes, but that's ***ing, too.  Try some on in the
store...they may not be for everyone, but they ARE for me!

From the "It Figures" Dept:  I heard that Asics will be discontinuing
the GT 2001 and replacing it with another shoe (I believe to be called
the GT 2010--apparently Asics is now naming their shoes after Arthur C.
Clarke novels and thier sequels).

On the good side, this might mean that any GT 2001's leftover may go on
sale at a decent price.  My Gel Exults have over 400 miles on them now
and are just about ready to join their brothers in the old running shoe
hall of fame (otherwise known as the floor of my closet).  Perhaps I can
pick up a couple of pairs of GT 2001's to replace them.

I'm 6'5, weigh 80kilos and run in GT2001's. They are wide at the
front and after a little discomfort in my right foot after I
bought them they have been fine.
However, they have a small hole in the material above my left
big toe which I'm a bit disapointed in becaude if it gets any
bigger a new pair will be needed.

They're good though

The 2001's have become my favorite pair of shoes. They do not have one
of the wider toe boxes on the market, but they have made it wider in the
last year. They are also good for orthotics (which I have).
