Beginner's question on muscles used

I started running a couple months ago (after about a 10 year hiatus).
I'm 39, and run about 3 mi per day 5-6 days a week. I wanted to add
some supplimental weight training.

My rather silly question is: Exactly what lower body muscles are mainly
excercised when you are running, and which lower body muscles are not?
I would like to target those that *are not* with my supplemental weight
training (as well as upper body work) for general fitness.

Any suggestions on the best excercises to work these muscles would also
be appreciated.

Lay on your side and lift your leg is a good exercise...but, actually, every
muscle is used ... its just a matter of to what degree and how to balance your
strength ... and no one can tell you what you need except to give you common
examples of comparative weakness.  Roy
