Just a quick recap of the San Francisco Marathon:
Antoni Niemczak of Poland passed Andres Espinoza of Mexico with a
little less than a mile to go to win in 2:13:48. Espinoza had
pulled away at about mile 17 and built a lead of up to 29 seconds.
Niemczak, who had finished 2nd place for 5 marathons in a row,
started to come back at about 21 miles, and within two miles had
halved Espinoza's lead. Niemczak's time is fast for this course,
which includes the infamous Hayes Street Hill of the Bay to Breakers
race.
Janis Klecker, running her 2nd marathon in 8 days, easily
outdistanced a struggling Janine Aiello to win in 2:39:51 to
2:42:46. The TV coverage concentrated on the closer men's race, so
I don't know many details, other than Klecker looked relaxed and
smooth all the way through the finish line.
The weather was good: foggy and cool.
