We are thinking about booking a trip to dive on Kadavu island, Fiji.
I've looked through the archives on people posting regarding Kadavu, Fiji
and am wondering if anyone out there can share opinions about recent
trips to Kadavu island - resorts stayed, dive operators, weather,
condition of dive sites, etc.

Thanks in advance for your help

I was on a trip to Fiji three winters ago. We stayed at Dive Kadavu Matana
Resort for 5 days and Garden Island resort on Taveuni for 1 week.
I would highly recommend both places.

Kadavu was wonderful, very isolated and beautiful.
The beach in front of the Matana resort is amazing.
The resort is rustic but clean and the setting is serene and tropical.
The food was kind of bland.
The diving was excellent overall, if you make sure to include a trip to
the Astrolabe reef. The dive sites ranged from good to excellent and their
were no currents.  The beach diving infront of the resort was amazing,
lots of corals lionfish even a sea snake.
Overall the diving was perhaps not as uniformly excelent as Taveuni but
currents were nonexistent (in contrast to Taveuni) and the better dives in
Kandavu were as good as the better dives in Taveuni.

Its been about 4 years since my visit to DIVE KADAVU although I was in
Fiji in August and talked to many people who were just there.  They've
got the 'yellow wall' which is large bommies covered with a lovely yellow
c***and that one dive to 135 feet through a grotto, 'Devil's something
other'.  Don't be put off...it is a MUST!

A lot of the other resorts have reefs in Fiji that are getting
'kicked-in' so the astute divers are still going to Kadavu, hoping for
c***in better condition.  Nukubalavau, the dive resort on the other
side of Kadavu island burned down--was burned to the ground by
disgruntled natives or former staff people.  The owners behaved too
arrogantly, they got what they deserved! The absentee owners, that is!
