Hi Jess,
I went to Koh Tao last August: it's really wonderful. It's the tipical
tropical island; small, without street , there's the elctricity from
the afternoon to midnight. Koh Samui is too big and there are too much
people. If you stay in Koh Samui, you have to play diving in Koh Tao.
The most wonderful place where there are bungalows is "Sensi Paradise
Resort" - Mae Haad Beach  - fax (077) 377196 (excellent food). There
are a lot of diving, but I went to Scuba Junction - Sairee Beach -
tel/fax 66 - 77 - 377169 or fax +66 - 1 - 7250181 (equipment scubapro
new). You can brin only your bathing costume.
Only another thing: you'll use half money in Koh Tao than Koh Samui.
Good Diving - Enrico

I went to Koh Toa at the end of Nov 96 Due to bad weather in the gulf
the trip to the island was delayed by 3 days so ended up holed up in
Chumphong at the New Chumphong Guest House run by a woman called Meow!
It's good for the money if you get stuck (don't believe the Rough Guide
description on this one). As to the island I dived out of the Bans dive
resort and they were pretty good ( did my Padi MFA there ). Bans have
the best dive boat on the island, offer discounts to group bookings (get
a few people on the trip across to join up with you for the booking),
tend to use shorties (3-4mm) and were amused when I dived with a knife
(they don't).

If the weather is bad then visability goes down to about 8m but the
c***is still great to look at as are the 'cuda etc.

A word to the wise about Koh Samui...IT'S EXPENSIVE and they do most of
their good dives around Koh Toa so you pay for that in time to get there
by boat and money to pay for the fuel.

If you think of doing any courses (PADI in the main) then be sure to
check what you get for the money - you may not get things like the books
included.

Hope that you have fun.
