Belize, Ambergris Caye: Good Dive Shop?

Belize, Ambergris Caye: Good Dive Shop?

Post by Saad Iqb » Mon, 01 Apr 1996 04:00:00

I'll be in San Pedro for a few days and I'd like advice on a good, reliable
dive shop for dive trips. I hope to travel light so the shop should also have
good condition rental equipment at reasonable rates. If I were to take some
equipment with me, what items would you recommend?

I hope to visit Caye Caulker as well. Same specs as above.

My husband dives with Amigos del Mar.

There aren't really any complete dive shops in San Pedro (at least not
when I was there in May '94). Most of the local dive operators have some
rental gear and a few other items for sale. We dove with Gaz and Dave's
located at the Belize Yacht Club, and they had some gear for sale and
plenty of rentals.

Belize, Ambergris Caye: Good Dive Shop?

Just got back from a Belize honeymoon.  Personally, I'd bypass the Hol
Chan trip (too many people), but outside the reef is great.

Also worth seeing the "dancing" nurse sharks and tame sting rays.
(There's an article by J cousteau in this month's skin diver.)

As for gear, I left my reg & BC at home.  For $12US per day, it was worth
the "hassle" factor.  Brought my mask and flippers, though.

Don't know if you are going to Placentia, but that's were we found the
best reefs.  (Still unnamed and unexplored. 10+ on the dive scale.) enjoy!
