Looking into that myself for our trip in early Nov, as it happens.
Don't know as yet about dive sites, but SWE will be along shortly to
argue with me and set you right.

I've emailed most of these, but either they don't want any custom or
their email addresses are borked...

PDC:
ProTec http://www.protecdiving.com/
SeaLife Divers http://www.sealifedivers.com/index.html
Phocea Caribe http://www.phoceacaribedive.com/

Playacar:
Aztec Diving http://www.aztecdiving.com/index.htm

The picture of the clownfish on their website is a bit misleading though.

I stayed at the Iberostar and dived with Dressel Divers.  No
complaints...good for newbies (which I am)

I've done about 5 dive trips to Playa del Carmen and have always liked
diving with the group at Tank-Ha.  They are located right on 5th Ave.
and about 8th or 10th St.  They have always responded back to me via
e-mail.  They speak English, Spanish, Dutch, German.
They have a little shop on the beach where you can store your gear
between dives.

I dove with Abyss last July - muy bueno!  Dove one day in the ocean
(Tortuga was a nice dive, green turtles and tarpon) and one day in the
cenotes.  The best thing in Playa is the cenotes.  I did Taj Mahal and
Dos Ojos, which I think are the most common.  Open water diving is a
LOT better on Cozumel and can be done in a day trip on the ferry.

Anyone suggest the best dive sites & dive shops playa del carmen
Mexico
---------------

I believed Clive is spamming and so I didn't reply. But since we have
several replies now, I'll throw in my dos pesos.

1. For diving off of PDC... Tank Ha is well recommended. I emailed
with them to set up something for my group and they were so very
helpful and good on prices for my group. They were recommended to us
by someone else from our LDS who dove with them and said they were
great.

http://www.tankha.com

2.  You might also try The Dive Company.  They are a travel agency
that specializes in dive tours. They use Abyss Dive Shops and then can
connect you to a hotel or transportation or whatever else you want.

http://www.thedivecompany.com

If you email with them, go directly to Andre at

Tell him the prices that you can get at other shops and ask him to
beat it. I did... and he did.  :)

3.  And finally, there is Hidden Worlds/Dos Ojos Dive Shop for the
cenotes.

http://www.hiddenworlds.com

I can't speak highly enough about these guys. Brian is a really nice
man to deal with.

Bueno tan ahora entonces. Mejor de suerte para tu. :)

Thats a direct literal translation? Is Spanish like Latin and has the
adverbs, nouns, and other bits in different positions in the sentance
structure to english?

The only spanish I know is from Terminator II, I bet you can guess what
Arnie says.

What's funny about that is my understanding of "hasta la vista" is "see you
later"; Arnie seems to use the phrase to say goodbye permanently (for
example, in his repeal of the auto tax), while he's really saying that he
expects the issue to resurface.  Politicians.  Go figure.
