The favored mode for diving out of San Pedro is in smaller boats, say
18 foot runabouts with big twin outboards.  These get you to the dive site
quickly and give you a nice sized diveing party.  It's just a few minutes
to most dive sites in these boats;  you could always get a couple boats if
you needed to.

I thought Gilbert with C***Beach Divers was pretty good.

I highly recommend The Mayan Princess, only 4 or 5 years old, every room
faces the ocean and has a patio, TV, small frig, and the rates were the
same as several other decent places in San Pedro. The Belize Yacht Club is
also very nice and has a pool and good local diving trips.

FYI, the diving at Lighthouse Reef is much better than around Ambergris
Caye. IMHO, the Hol Chan Marine preserve is overrated, but still okay for
one dive or snorkel. You may want to look into a 3-4 day offshore trip for
better diving at about the same cost as staying and diving around
Ambergris Caye.

I dove w/bottom Time Divers (Chocolate Nunez) and found him excellent.
The boats are of the smaller variety but as was said, none of the dive
sites are a long ride.  While we didn't get any of the walls Cayman has,
the canyons were quite a treat.

As for accommodations, look for price as far as I'm concerned.  I prefer
a budged place so I can use more $$$ for diving.

Try Fido's for the best Tequila Sunrise as per my Dive Buddy who I had to
pour into bed one night :)
