New Diving Buoy Missing from the North Reef at Bowyer Island Howe Sound

Saturday Sept. 14/96 between the hours of 10:00 am and 5:00
pm the buoy was released from the reef at the north end of
Bowyer Island , location 49 25.958 N by 123 16.524
W. This was accomplished by removing the underwater
shackle holding the steel cable to the bottom anchor chain.
At 6:00 pm the buoy was nowhere insight .
This buoy was placed on Sept. 8/96 with private funds and
was intended to be shared with the total dive community .
Its purpose was to prevent damage to the underwater
environment and sea life , caused by anchor dragging. We are
presently looking at other sites in Howe Sound to place
permanent dive mooring buoys for the use of all divers.

All buoy placement is first approved by the Canadian Coast
Guard.
