Equipment trade ins ?

Post by Mike » Tue, 23 Jul 2002 22:37:09

Ok, i haven't been diving for a few years (like 5) cause i got bored diving
in the same lake in WI for a whole summer. Now I live in florida and want to
get back into it

Checked my gear and my Monitor 3 Air just displays ERR on the screen. I call
up UWATEC and they tell me its obsolete. I paid 1100 for this thing in 1996
i think it was!. Anyway, the tech (javier i think) tells me that they offer
a trade in program for the Monitor 3 to Aladin Air Z for like $460. I've
called twice to confirm this and to make sure there wasn't any time limit.

Now, the question. I also have a Dacro Extreme plus reg set (and octo) as
well as an Extreme BC. Does anyone know if Dacor offers a similar exchange
program? Theres nothing listed on Dacors site on these, and finding info on
any other site is proving more trouble than its worth. They served me fine
thru 160 some dives (except for an occassional free flow) and once I get
them serviced I'm sure they'll be good for a bit yet.

Also, i read in another thread that Dacor doesn't exist anymore? Is this
true?

Obsolete? I find that hard to believe. I use an old Orca Marathon as a
backup computer. I bought it used, I'm sure it's at least 10 years old, and
it reads virtually the same as a US Divers Matrix purchased about 5 years
ago. Check the batteries, see if there is some sort of reboot procedure,
read the manual, but I would be loath to spend that kind of money on a
possibly unnecessary upgrade. Also take those regs to a dive shop, have them
tuned, and use them. Equipment well taken care of and serviced at least
annually should give you many years of diving without having to upgrade,
unless your diving goals change and necessitate higher performance
equipment.

Equipment trade ins ?

Well, obsolete as in service is a lot harder to obtain. They say they can
try and wake it up via the datatrack software (which i don't have) but if it
don't work its dead. Monitors had to be shipped to switzerland i guess for
service. That may be a load of crap, it may not, but at least Aladins are
serviced here in the states. I checked the Monitor last year before i moved
from GA to FL and it came up fine, said battery was at 79%. Dunno what could
have happened to it.

I fell out of warranty on my other stuff so if  or when Mares ever brings up
the trade in program, I'll trade them in for something else. Cheaper than
buying new anyway. If they don't, then i'll get them serviced and continue
with these until i can put together enough cash for a new set.
