I learnt to dive at Bans 3 years ago and it was a fantastic place for
the chilled out social life...
I was there for the whole of April and it was 'just' coming into the
rainy season we had a couple of tropical storms but they passed quickly,
but left the water pretty churned up. Apart from that the whether was
great, so I presume Jan/Feb would be better.
The diving on the other hand was not so good, not exactly bad, but I
have had better dives in Mexico/Red Sea and even Spain...but as you say
the rest makes up for it...
Overall, I would definatley consider going back, although it sounds like
it has become a lot more commercialised since I was there...I'm thinking
of heading to Bans to get more dive experience (firstly) and perhaps do
my Rescue/DM, but I might try and head down to Malaysia or the
Philippines if it's got too bad...
PS. No idea about the underwater vessel, it must be new (or maybe I was
too drunk to remember?:D )
