'92 World Cup at Gap (France)
=============================

The DZ of Gap-Tallard organized the first World Cup of formation skydiving
(4-way and 8-way). This event was hold the first week of October.

Known to be a very sunny DZ (300 blue sky days in year), Gap showed us how
the 65 other days are: ...wet, cloudy, foggy and wet (and maybe a little wet!)

This competition was a test for the new judgement rules (only air-to-air
video!) and for a new way to show our sport to the public (real-time air-to-
ground video on a 5x5meters screen!) The judges said it was much more easier
to work with these air-to-air video. The videomen mastered the exit well and
only a few jumps were impossible to evaluate. The air-to-ground transmission
was not perfect, but worked fine in most of the cases. The videomen had to
carry a transmitter which was connected on the camera and sent the images to
the ground. This made possible to see the jumps in real-time as if you were
the videoman!!! Great!  A video-studio added informations such as the teams
name, countdown and points. This had no judgement value, but was really good.

On Sunday and Monday, each team could make a practice jump (yes...only one!).
The weather was too bad to do more...
On Tue and Wed, we had a lot of time to play hacky-sack and to prepare the
jumps (creepers, creppers and creepers again...). A incredible number of
Game-Boy were also used (ask the Knights!)...

On Thu, big surprise: IT WAS SUNNY!!! We jumped, jumped and jumped. Three
rounds in both 4-way and 8-way... Incredible! There were four Porter and
many pilots, so it was possible to jump without any interruption.

On Fri, booohoooo... clouds again... We made 2 rounds more, but through the
clouds... (This was only possible with the air-to-air judgement!). At this
point, the competition was not yet valid... we had to do at least one more
jump and the weather forecast was...bad. :-(

On Sat: rain, rain and rain!!! We all thought it was finished... BUT at about
10 o'clock, it was better and we could jump the 6th round in 4-way and 8-way.
In 4-way, it was clear: the French team was simply the best. No discussion.
But in 8-way, the Knights and the French team had the same number of points!!!
We went then for the 7th round in 8-way: USA 19, France...seemed to be about
14-15, but they had really bad conditions...=> rejump (as for Russia and
Norway)!!! We waited for better weather and, at 4pm, the rejumped. What a
tension!!! France was the first team to rejump. They made...20!

Ok. If you want more details about something, e-mail me. Here are the final
