For those of you who may not have been able to follow
Tim & Ted Wagner's fantastic OmniSkore
(http://www.skydiveaz.com/98_world_cup/1998_world_cup.htm)
coverage of the 1998 World Cup of Formation Skydiving
in VORA, Portugal, September 19 - 27, 1998,
the basics results are also posted here.

After an 11th round jump-off, and one of the most exciting, tight races
ever,
The new 1998 World Cup and European Championships
in 4-way Formation Skydiving:

Team 431: USA -
Home Drop Zone: Skydive Space Centre, FL
        Christopher Irwin
        Doug Park
        Joey Jones
        Dawn English
        Video: Finbar Molloy

As the Wagner's pointed out in their "Tidbits" daily diary, "this is the
first FAI Category 1 (i.e., World Cup or Word
Meet) championships where a woman will stand on the winner's platform,
and
there are not one, but two: Dawn English of Space Center FX, and Lise
Aune
of Norway's DeLand Norgies. Congratulations, ladies, may you continue to
demonstrate the meaninglessness of the word "gender" in formation
skydiving."

And the 1998 World Cup and European Championships in 8-way:

Team 810: USA - Golden Knights
Home Drop Zone: Raeford

        Charlie Brown
        Eric Heinsheimer
        Carey Mills
        Kurt Isenburger
        Paul Raspino
        Mathew Davidson
        John Hoover
        Brian Smith
        Trevor McCarthy
        Ken Brown
        Video: Chris Talbert

Ted & Ted Wagner did an outstanding job keeping the
OmniSkore web site updated with the standings, and a look
at the ongoing progress with a daily diary.
The competitors were hampered by marginal
weather most of the time, and you can even see photos taken
during the week of the mess they had to deal with.
And deal with it, they did.

If you have the time, visit:

You won't be dissappointed.
It's great coverage that will make you feel as if you were there.

Although the US did extremely well in Formation Skydiving.....

LETS NOT FORGET:

Omar A & G2 took                                  2nd place in Men's
Freestyle
Tanya Garcia & Craig O'Brien  took      2nd in Women's Skysurfing.

I can appreciate formation skydiving... these people trained hard and it is
no small feat to do as well as they did. But the World Cup wasn't just for
belly fliers.

No flame intended Janet... I just want to be fair to the other US placing
competitors that also trained very hard to accomplish top placing scores.

I wish that Ted and I could have had more time to follow and report on the
Freefly and Skysurf competition that was going on, it was a great
competition in its own. Congratulations to all the competitors, except the
one that woke up the whole hotel at 3:00 a.m. and got arrested.

Men's Skysurf and Men's Freestyle in particular were great contests!
