AFF at Quincy - CHANGES!!

Post by Skydive City/Z-Hill » Thu, 30 Jul 1998 04:00:00

Due to last minute changes, the AFF concession at Quincy has been handed
over to Skydive City of Zephyrhills, Florida.
We will be running the AFF training program from our load organizing tent
near the Main Manifest building at the Freefall Convention this year.

**** IF YOU HAVE PEOPLE THAT ARE PLANNING TO COME!  PLEASE NOTE:
Whether or not they have already checked in with the Convention or not, or
even if they have booked with the prior concession operator, they need to
contact us directly and right away, so we can make arrangements and staff
appropriately for this.

If you have friends and family that want to learn how to skydive at the
World's Biggest Boogie, then get in touch with us or meet us at the
convention, but PLEASE, send us email or anything to indicate that you will
be there.  We can be reached at:
Mike Hoogsteden (800) 404-9399
TK Hayes - same number
or (813) 783-9399 if you are calling from overseas

We will be providing the finest AFF Instruction, along with our Javelin/PD
based equipment fully Cypres equipped.  Complete training, the finest gear,
you can't beat it!   See ya there!

"learn how to skydive at the World's Biggest Boogie,"

I don't know, call me old fashioned, but this strikes me as odd.

(I wanted to say "***ing stupid" but I made a promise to clean up my posts)

Only those that know Bill Gere will understand the chasm between
what he says, what he thinks, and what he does...

And I do believe he's never made it to Quincy...

Educate me.  Why is it stupid?  They have a separate landing area for the
students, right?  The Skydive City staff based at Quincy is the same one as
in Florida, right?  So why would it be any more stupid to do AFF at Quincy
than say at ZHills?

Seems like doing an AFF progression at Quincy would actually make a hell of a
lot of sense in some situations.  For example, say you were a non-skydiver
wanting to maybe learn the sport.  Your skydiving friends, or perhaps a
significant other is going to Quincy.  Instead of sitting at home missing
all the fun, why not join them.  You work on your AFF progression with
the ZHills gang, while he/she/they jump their butts off at the boogie.
Sounds like a good time all around, huh?

Frankly, I don't think you could ask for a more professional organization
to do your student training with ... and, I would imagine the concern for
safety and the adherence to BSRs for students at Quincy, if anything, is
gonna be even more rigidly controlled than it would be at most dz's.

Again, I'm not picking an argument here ... I'm just curious ... educate me.
Why you think it's odd or stupid?

Rita,

as one of those unfortunate urban dwellers this analogy may not be the
most appropriate but here goes:

AFF at the WFFC is like learning to drive by entering a road rally.

See you at the Herd?

LOL ... it's not an appropriate anology ... not because you're an urban
dweller ... but because ... well ... I don't drive! :)

Oops!  Gotta admit, though ... if you can land there in one piece ... you can
probably hold your own at pretty much any drop zone, huh? :)

Seriously, though ... I would think adequate precautions would be set up
for students ... at least I would hope so ...
