do they know? About the others race

I was wondering:  do you think that the riders in the Giro have the time or
interest to find out about their competitors racing elsewhere.  I would be
curious to know for example if  Zuelle is appraised of the doings of  the
rest of festina. Or if Jalabert who is battling  Olano, Riis and Ullrich in
spain, is told of Baroli's putting the hurting to zuelle, tonkov, pantani et
all at the Giro.  I am sure they have their system of getting information,
yet I wander what they are told.

After reading Marcel Wust's Pain and Suffering diary (cyclingnews.com), I
kind of have this picture in my mind of all these riders going back to
their hotel at night, breaking out their lap tops, and rigging up the
telephone wiring in old/dingy hotels  (see below) so that they get dialed
into Cyclebase, Cycling News, and Velocity for the latest cycling results.

Excerpt from Marcel Wust (www.cyclingnews.com):
"Before I talk about today's stage I want you to know the efforts outside
the race I had to do yesterday. My swiss knife and me - we spent about a
half an hour unscrewing the phone, then ripping the cable out of the wall,
cutting this same cable, connecting it with my custom pre cut cable and
put it in my computer...just to realize that the dialing modus here is
half pulse/half tone (never seen that before!!) and that it would not
work. so the next half hour I spent doing the same stuff but
reverse...there is a bit of a noise in the line now when you use the
phone...but it works. Finally I convinced the reception people to let me
use the front desk phone to connect me and send yesterday's report on the
road......THANKS...they were really helpful.........

The newspaper is usually a pretty good source also.
