What's up with the cad2 and cad3 stuff. Doesn't that cad thing mean the
frames been designed using Computer Aided Design?" So what's the big deal
with the 2 and 3 designations.

Cannondale's CAAD designations are just their way of indicating the
quality of their frames.  A CAAD 1 frame is straight guage aluminum,
strictly a low-end bike.  A CAAD 2 frame is butted aluminum which
helps produce a high end recreational frame.  CAAD 3 is their highest
quality frame which uses butting, swaging, and ump*** other metal
working techniques to produce top of the line racing frames that
usually rival titanium frames on the scales.

Acutally, what Cannondale doesn't want anyone to know is that the caad2
frames are actually stronger and better.  What they do is just shave
some aluminum off of the sides with a file, so the caad3s will be
lighter.  However, when they do this, the caad3s end up being weaker
too.  That's why the caad2s come with a LIFETIME warranty, whereas the
caad3s only come with a 5-year warranty.  This secret technique of
actually making the frames weaker and selling them for a higher price
has been documented by an undercover team on the show "60 minutes."
Look for it in a few weeks.

CAAD2 Stronger and better?  Naw, you forget the fact that racers know
full well that they sacrifice some durability for light weight and
high performance.  While the CAAD2 may be "stronger" in the long term,
better is a very subjective thing.

I think that Cannondale is pretty up front about the fact that the Caad
2 is stronger (and heavier).  You make your choice for light weight over
durability when you forego the lifetime warranty.
