Hi:

Anyone know if it's possible to purchase just  the Teflon liner for a
shimano XT V Brake cable noodle?  If so, know of an online source?  Thanks
for any advice.

PTFE is toxic, I'd advise against making up noodles with teflon.  You
could use a liquid dispersed high performance lubricant.  Teflon/
graphite/molybdenum disulphide in a can.

I saw one for sale online once for $15(!). Don't remember where, though.

you know not of which you speak.  the precursor to ptfe, pfoa
perfluorootanoic acid is toxic, but unless your liner is in liquid form,
or your liner operates above about 400'C, you have no risk.

yeah, that makes a lot of sense.  all the propellants, all the
hydrocarbons, all the other organics - no toxicity risk whatsoever.

there are many online retailers.  but you're looking at buying several
meters at a time usually.  cheaper to just pay an overinflated price at
your local store than to pay for shipping on something so small.  or pay
in beer and make new friends.

Standard Shimano/Tektro/Avid ones with a plastic liner are $5 and work
great. Setup helps with friction more than a liner, IMHO--use a bit of
dowel and muscle to get the curve in your noodle dialed in right.
Often rears come with 90s, when 120s would make a cleaner transition.

Absolute bs. It is not at all toxic to humans which is why it's popular
in cookware.

Dear Andrew,

Well, if you read Trevor's post carefully, his usual incoherence gives
you a choice.

First, he warns against "making up noodles with teflon" in his reply
to a poster asking about buying a Teflon liner.

But his next sentence suggests using a liquid lubricant, specifically
a liquid containing the named ingrediient--

Teflon.

Reading Trevor is not an easily acquired art.

Cheers,

Carl Fogel

I know not to use it in my noodles.

Yep, I saw a few thousand bodies stacked at the curbs when riding in
this morning. People just wantonly cooking eggs for each other all
morning long with malice aforethought. The horror! Each of them ate that
one fatal part per million of teflon.

I hope these hand wringers lotion up--you don't want chapping this
time of year, what with the dry air and everything.

Teflon, Tang, Velcro...all beautiful little miracles!

Ouch!

I found the entire assembly, including the noodle and the liner, on line for
$3.
