North Carolina/help/bike information

Hello I will be living in Raleigh, North Carolina in June. I was wondering if
there was alot of bike shops in Raleigh. I have a MTB and was hoping that I
could find some good shops in the area to get some bike equipment.  I will also
be going to NCSU in the fall. Is their alot of easy bike paths to commute to
school in the area? I will be living in Avent Ferry apartments. I think it is
close to Gourman street. My girlfriend found the place so I have not been their
yet.  If anyone  lives near where I will be living and wants to e-mail me
some info or even hook up and show me around I would be very thankfull.

The triangle area has a lot of good bike shops.  Of particular note is
Performance Bike Shop in nearby Chapel Hill, NC -- I believe this was their
original location(?).  There's also REI at Crossroads in Cary, and several
local shops that are well equipped: Flythe, Cycle Center, and All Star are
examples.

I don't see a listing for "Avent Ferry Apartments", although there are some
apartments on Avent Ferry Road, which is close to NCSU.  These places are in
the city, so if that's your location you'll probably be riding on roads to get
to school.  Raleigh does have some posted "bike routes" as well as some paved
paths, so you might luck out.  Perhaps a student will respond; I've visited
NCSU but have not attended there.  There are several apartments surrounding
the school that cater to students, so the local traffic is probably used to
cyclists.
