which disc brake system for mtb?

I'm ready to spend the $$ to upgrade to disc brakes but need advice on
which brand is the best.  I want light weight, good feel, and no drag.
Every manufacturer advertises that their system meets these
requirements but the test reviews all give conflicting info.  Hayes
seems to get the most consistent reviews & is spec'd on lots of new
high end bikes but they told me they didn't have a mounting bracket
that would fit my fork (AMP linkage).  What's up with that?  I thought
all disc brakes bolted onto the fork using the universal standard "C"
mount.  If you use or know about discs please advise.  Thanks.

I used the Hayes for 2,400 miles in 1998. Absolutly no problems. No drag, no
fade and no leaks in the hydraulics. I found that modulation was excellent even
though I read some did not like it. They are very powerful stoppers and a light
touch is needed as compared to V or U brakes. Best part about them is
consistant braking no matter the conditions. One minor downside, retail
replacement was about 50 US dollars for the front and rear pads. I just changed
them out as the year ended but after seeing the pads off the bike, they had
quite abit of material left. Can not comment on the mount as mine came from the
factory on the Trek 8900.
