        Just about any severe metabolic upset can lead to founder--retained placenta,
Potomac horse fever, colic,etc., as well as prolonged mechanical stress--for
example, a horse w/a fractured limb, where increased weight -bearing on the
sound limb can result in founder.

I also thought fever could lead to founder.  I.e.
colic usually has fever associated with it and I
thought this could contribute to any resulting
founder.(?)
