Competitive Driving Info Wanted

Post by Sally Shaffe » Mon, 01 Jan 1996 04:00:00

Is there anyone out there that has competed in any type of competitive
driving ? Possibly through the American Driving Society approved
competitions. I have several standardbreds that I would like to compete
with but I have no idea where to start.

Thanks,

Sally

I belong to ADS. I don't participate in Combined Driving Events
(CDE) for short, but there are a number of them around.  ADS is your
contact; They can be reached at P.O. box 160 Metamora, MI.  48455,
810.664.8666.  I have participated in many different equine venues,
and I have to say that the Driving people are for the most part the
most accepting, encouraging, and nicest I have met so far. There are
also many local driving clubs, which are great places to get
started.  Good luck!

Hi Sally,
Glad to get your message. I'm new to driving too ( about 1 1/2 years) I
have gone on pleasure drives but have not as yet started to compete. It is
my plan to get in to a few low level CDEs this year. I hope it works out .
I am a member of the ADS and they are really good at getting out the news
of driving events through out the country. I don't know where you live but
that would probably be a good start. I am in northern California and we
have several regional publications that also have event listings. I drive
a grade mare at this time and plan on training my Morgan mare this spring.
I also am breeding to a Friesian stallion to get a Friesian Morgan cross.
I'm hoping everything works out.
Good luck!!

Hi Kathy,
I notice you are in Northern California.  So are we.  My wife and I
began driving about 9 months ago and are having a BLAST.  I'm not sure if
we beling to the ADS or not, but we did join the Northern California
Driving Club after going to a few shows and meeting a nice lady from
Clear Lake.  We also belong to the Antique Carriage club and have gone on
a couple of drives with them - they have a real  "drive what you've got"
attitude and are really nice folks.

Lots of CDE's coming up next year and it looks like Woodland Stalion
Station will be sponsoring several - as well as their picnic drives.

What organizations besides ADS do you belong to?  What publications do
you subscribe to.

Best Wishes,  Dave & Linda Howe in Sacramento, CA.

Where are you located? I started competing in CDE's last year in Texas
after talking with driving people for several years at horse shows.
One of the best things is to spectate at a couple of events before
taking the plunge--there are a lot of things to learn and they're great
fun to watch. The American Driving Society is a good source of
information. If you're anywhere near Texas, get in touch with me and I
can probably refer you to someone or a group in your area that can help
get you started. I'd be glad to answer specific questions.

I would like to share more on AOL with carraige drivers. I am new to AOL
and am not sure how to find other carraige drivers.  Please advise.
