Olympic Coverage on NBC

Thank you one and all for confirming my feelings about the equestrian coverage
on t.v.  Last night I counted 14 minutes of coverage (including commercials)
and then back to the 25th replay of Strug screwing up her ankle.  Are we really
that much of a minority?  I wanna see horses!  I can see basketball 11 months
of the year - I want horses!

When I complained last night, my very-non-horsey son said, "nobody cares but
you, Mom."  Thank you all who wrote about the coverage.  It's not "just me."

At least we got 14 minutes of prime time.  That is better than I
expected.  Think about all the fencers, wrestlers, rowers,
yachters, shooters, and judo athletes who got no coverage.

But, yah, I am as annoyed and irritated as anyone over the coverage.
It took NBC and hour and a half last night to cover three swimming
events (perhaps 15 minutes total).  The rest was all filler.
Arghh!

Yes, I agree with you. I think we get enough about England's royals
during the rest of the year. NBC apparently thinks this is what the
majority of America wants to hear about. It is truly an insult to the
intelligence of the viewing audience.

Everytime I've heard one of the "newsy" reports on an athlete's
background, I can't help but think who writes this drivel? And worse
yet, ugh....it's all there is if you want to watch even a small part of
the Olympics. Yuck! I really think the best way to impact NBC would be
to write to the sponsors and tell them that you won't buy their products
if they continue to support such lousy TV. I think NBC might be
interested in what the sponsors have to say. Just a thought!

Well I am not sure who is doing the coverage for NZ but they have been
showing live equestrian events at 3.00am here.  Haven't watched it -
but I have been watching the highlights at the other end of the day
and we got 45min (ads included) of the individual 3Day Cross Country
event.  Seen about 7 minutes in total of dressage and absolutely NO
SHOWJUMPING!!!!!

And yet we get semi finals of this and heats of that!!  Oh and of
course watching Danyon Loader win our first gold - I think I have seen
it about 200 times so far - one of our cereal manufacturers has
included it in an ad.   AAAARRRRRRGGGGGGHHHHHHH

When will it end.

I think that for the next Olympics,NBC (or whoever gets the
big contract) should show track and field, swimming etc.
Popular sports, and CBS etc should be able to cover the other
ones such as equestrian etc..We don't get NBC;searching the other
stations, they had nothing on the Olympics;just golf and sitcoms.

Boy that was badly written;I meant CBS or other stations
should show the more unpopular sports!

Well, bad new for you Denise: NBC has bought the rights for all the
games up to and including the 2008 ones.

My only hope is that, what with Sydney being have way around the world
and removed by an average of 12 hours in timezones the "daytime soap
opera" system just wont apply.

It's a slim hope though.

Mike
