I thought I would try this diverse group for information in locating
prospective *english* trainers in the C***tesville, VA area. I have a
friend who lives there. She is looking to purchase a pretty green/young horse.
She is very much a novice herself. I'm trying to help her locate a possible
trainer that can work with the horse (training), and give her lessons, with the
goal of getting both this horse and rider together a bit down the road.
The horse she is looking to buy is mine. She is pretty set on it, and
knowing this young horse, and his full brother that I owned since he was 5 day
old (had him until he was 7 yrs, and I was as green as she was at the time), I
think they will do fine with the right help. My friend is very interested in
doing hunseat, hunter under saddle, and possibly go to dressage down the road.
The full brother that I owned was assessed by a Grand Prix level person and she
said he was at Level 3 and Level 4. This horse was trained to be a reining
horse. My 3 yo colt (the one she is looking at) has also been started towards
being a reiner, but he will be a lot like this other gelding. He will be about
15.2 to 15.3, and very balanced. My friend has a fear of the bigger warm***s,
and is looking for something that will be no taller than 15.3.
My colt has about 8 mos of training, all the basics by a very well known QH &
Paint trainer here in CA. He is just now starting on some specific reining
maneuvers. I think the most important thing is to find a reputable, quality, &
qualified trainer that can continue the horses' training (english focus), and
can work with friend who needs a good patient person who isn't going to rush
her. I have stressed enough to my friend that this colt needs to continue his
training by a qualified *hand*. He needs to get really broke. She understands
this and is no rush to ride him until they both are better trained. This colt
is VERY quiet and kind (like his brother).
Any ideas on trainers and facilities in VA?
:)
