Back from the barn after my first ride in about a week. I rode the Training
Level Test 1 pattern as a warm-up. I'm so glad that cantering is NBD
anymore. Kass had me try to canter a serpentine. Picking up the canter was
okay, but the turn across the center line wasn't sharp enough and Westwind
was falling over his shoulder picking up the right lead. It took me 3 tries
before I saw what I was doing wrong and Kass's directions finally made
sense. Gave up trying to canter the serpentine and did it at the trot
instead.
Now that I am comfortable riding Westwind, I can stop worrying about what
he's going to do and I can start paying attention to what *I'm* supposed to
do. In fact, there were a couple of times where I was out of position but I
didn't panic. And Westwind's size doesn't bother me much anymore. I just
wish that we had a taller mounting block - sometimes getting on him is an
effort. :/
