NBC coverage SUCKS!

Post by Zeftin » Thu, 25 Jul 1996 04:00:00

I think the rule is that if it's not gymnastics or swimming then noone is
interested in having it covered.  Even my husband, who is not a horse
oriented person, said that you would think NBC would take notice that
Equestrian events were one of the few venues that were completely sold
out.

I turned on Olympic coverage in time to have a complete history of the
Civil War relative to Atlanta - what is this - the History Channel?

Then again, I am waiting for the in depth coverage of the synchronized
swimming.  Doesn't it give you goose bumps just to think about it.  NOT!

Did anyone else notice that NBC didn't bother to mention whether Nirvana
II was okay after her fall? They said Jill was "shaken but unharmed" but
didn't say anything about the horse. They showed her being led a few steps
and I thought she looked off in the first step, but maybe not in the other
steps. She was still in the water too, so she just might have been walking
funny.  Does anyone know how she is?

Also, they didn't show them doing any more of the cross-country so I
assume they retired but they didn't say anything about this either. Oh
boy. I can't wait to see the 10 minutes of exclusively American coverage
tonight!!

What's that number to order those videos? Is there a price set for them yet?

You are missing the point, IMO. Sure the coverage was gooey and not too long,
but they got the news element. They showed K. O'Connor telling D.O'C. to take
the long option in the water where she had trouble. They showed D.O'C doing
just that. They showed Bruce D. taking the longer route. They showed Mark
Phillips telling Jill H. to take the long option, and drawing it for her on a
piece of paper. They showed her kissing off this advice, and falling in the
water.

NBC might not have covered the event like you or I would have liked to see
it, but they got the story. Kinda makes me wonder how good a job they could
do if they were really interested. Someone there understands the sport.

And there you have it.....7/24 another ten minutes of the three-day.
What an awful representation and they showed it twice!  The same damned
ten minutes..once at 11:00 am EST and then again at 8:00 pm. for all of
those who missed the first exciting time they aired it.

Now if you only have twenty minutes, don't you think you ought to at
least make an effort to show different stuff each time??? Repeats in the
same day, now you gotta wonder who is doing the programing.

Up close and personal my ass........who gives a damn about how this or
that person has their personal goals answered and where they lived in
their war torn country.  Show the damned events and shut up, boy how I
miss that Triple-cast they had the last time.  I have eight hours of
tape........now I can add my new twenty minutes.  Whoopeee, see me
cheer!  <NOT>

What cracked me up was that they were showing men's volleyball (indoor)
and it was decidedly empty, LOTS of empty seats in that stadium.
BUT ohmigod that's definitely more interesting than equestrian,
which IS sold out and has been for months. What also gets my goat is
that NBC was saying before the games: "why yes, we're planning on
showing equestrian!! oh yes! don't worry!!" 5 minutes does NOT constitute
covering the event, IMHO.

Thank heavens for that, at least.  Sure would be nice if we could have
more coverage, though.

Yeh, but re-runs are cheaper for NBC. Wonder what their sponsors think
of showing re-runs though?  But then if they aired it at two such widely
separated times maybe they sold the same shoddy bill of goods to more
than one sponsor???? Nice if you can double-dip. Actually, I think they
did do some very minor editing to the "human interest bits" for the
evening slot, but kept all the same competition footage as before.
