Advice for cleaning

Post by Big Di » Fri, 27 Jan 1995 00:41:46

I have a Vision saddle with suede kneerolls.  The suede has gotten VERY
dirty in the last several months (Iknow...but I'm really not a big fan of
cleaning tack regularily).  Can anyone offer any suggestions on how to
clean the suede?  I've been scraping at it with a knife, but I'm almost
posative that there's a better method than this.
Thank you.

There are stiff wire brushes made for this purpose. You should be able to
find them at a shoe store. I believe there may also be a spray suede cleaner,
but I have no personal experience with it.

That is a very workable way, but I have
accidentally found a way to clean suede
that has been quite good for small jobs.

I use a product called o-cel-o scouring
pads (Betty Crocker:  I get points too!)
They are dark green rectangles which can
be used as a substitute for steel wool
and which I have found will do a superb
job on suede.  I finish the suede with
a large, cheap pencil eraser.

There is some kind of spray but I can't
remember the name either.

(The topic is how to clean suede kneerolls on a saddle.)
I have used the spray, with modest success.  (You will need a
suede brush, as well.)  The spray and brush together will work
better than either alone.

The results won't be perfect, but you should end up cleaner
than when you started.
