Post by Perry Tsacoum » Thu, 05 Jul 1990 06:17:40

Could somebody PLEASE send me a list of 3-day events in the
Washington, D.C. area?  Or, at least point me in the right direction
to get the information.

THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ME!!

I am particularly interested in an area that goes as far NORTH as
Baltimore, EAST as ANNAPOLIS, WEST as WEST ***IA, and SOUTH
as Fredricksburg.

Thank you very much!

The official organizing body for combined training in the U.S is the USCTA
(United States Combined Training Association).  They publish an omnibus
a couple times a year that contains a listing of all sanctioned events
held in the US.  This includes virtually ALL of the three-day events
(as these are major events preliminary level and up).  Their address is:
        USCTA
        292 Bridge St.
        South Hamilton, MA  01962-1497
        (617) 468-7133

Local bodies also get involved in organizing 3-day events.  Washington D.C.,
***ia and Maryland are covered by the Central States Dressage and
Combined Training Association (CSDCTA).  You can probably get an address
and phone number for them through the USCTA.

Other places with listings of SOME 3-day events (the above would get you ALL
of them):  Horse Show magazine (publication of the AHSA), Horseplay magazine,
and I think Practical Horseman may have some listings.

Your best bet is to give the USCTA a call, or find a friend who is a member
and ask to see his/her omnibus.  I would send you the info
myself, but I never have the omnibus here in the office.

I have to correct myself on this... The *** Commonwealth *** DCTA is the main
one there, and there are several other groups in ***ia and Maryland.
Ooops.

Anyway:  Here is a list of dates and 3-day events for that area:
July-August  ... nothing ... (No Horse Trials to speak of either.  Too hot.)
Sept.        ... nothing ... (Lots of Horse Trials, no 3-day)
Oct. 12-14   Radnor Hunt Three-Day event (Pennsylvania)
Oct. 26-28   Fair Hill Three-Day Event   (Maryland)

That's it.  Radnor is at Preliminary and Intermediate level.
Fair Hill is Advanced, and is a CCI (e.g. International) Event.

That's all the information I have about these right now.  In a few months
the Fall omnibus will arrive with detailed information.
