Jay Hassman, a former Vice President in charge of pay-per-vew and
marketing for WCW and a former pay-per-view consultant for TNA as well
as for former WWE pay-per-view marketer Team Services, has been
arrested on four felony counts in New York.
Hassman was arraigned on April 29 on charges of two counts of
Possession of a Forged Instrument, and one count each of Grand
Larceny, and False Business Records.
Hassman's next court appearance is set for June 2.
Hassman was TNA's pay-per-view consultant when the company launched in
2002 and was fired in July 2002 when it was discovered that he had
also been working for Team Services, the company that handled
marketing for WWE. J Sports & Entertainment (TNA's parent company at
the time) filed a lawsuit against Hassman and his business partner Len
Sabal alleging fraud and other misconduct related to false
representation of pay-per-view performance as well as for failing to
disclose the obvious conflict involved in Hassman working for a
company that handled marketing for WWE. Hassman was accused at the
time by TNA of forging documents that showed greatly exaggerated
pay-per-view buys to make it appear that they had come from iNDEMAND.
TNA's lawsuit against Hassman and Sabal was mutually dismissed several
months after it had been filed.
