Newbie Query: Moves

Post by Katherine M. Sh » Tue, 02 May 1995 04:00:00

After years on the Internet, I can't believe I just found this
group... what a wonderful example of warp-edness.
I followed WWF for years until they changed it's local broadcasting
time recently, and was a devoted fan, to the marked disbelief of my
unelightened friends. Now that I've found this group, I'm very eager
to give it a try, but I have to admit, in all those years of watching
wrestling, I was always paying attention to the plots and gimmicks,
not the moves. So while I recognize the names of moves that I read
here, I don't have a list of standard ones in my head, or a real
complete grasp on what they are. Does anyone have a compiled list of
standard moves, or any other aid for a newbie like me? Your help is
very much appreciated.

Joel "The MisLearn'd Thing" Priddy, who is piggy-backing off a
friends account, so please mention my name in the subject line of any
mail. :)

Be easier for all concerned if you were to ask about specific moves,
rather than saying "what are all these?" try saying "What is..."
 Hope this helps.

Let's not and say we did. How about I just post my Finisher's List
instead. It will save a lot of wear and tear on my newsreader. Note that
the list is in the midst of being updated, so (a) it's not complete, and
(b) it's a little messed up with it's footnotes. Look for the up-to-date
version on the web site by the end of next week (yeah, and how long have
I been saying that?)

                          Finishing Manoeuvers List
                          (rec.sport.pro-wrestling)
===============================================================================
                            compiled and kept by
                        Curtis "Chewbacca" Desjardins

===============================================================================
                       date created:  September 13, 1992
                       last revised:  March 18, 1995
===============================================================================

       - column 1 is a description of the move
       - column 2 is for "trademark" names of moves (if any)
       - column 3 is for the wrestler who uses/used the named move
       - the named wrestler will have used the move as a finisher
exclusively (or most of the time) during one point in their career
       - once used as a finisher, it remains in the list, so some wrestlers
may have several entries corresponding to different points in
         their careers
       - moves are described/categorized by how they *end*, and are
qualified by how they are *setup* (thus brainbusters and
frankensteiners are lumped with DDT's and Piledrivers,
         respectively)
       - any move with a number in braces (eg. [2] ) denotes a footnote
that will describe the move further
       - this list is by no means complete, and is constantly under
revision with thanks to the following for their insights, suggestions,
additions, and changes (hope I didn't forget anybody): Paul Beneker,
Jared Brame, Ed Branscom, Clay Breshears, Bill Comer, Rev. Ray Duffy,
Hacksaw Rick Duggan, Craig Giddens, Thomas Grotenhuis, Andrew Hall,
James Heath, Sean Helfrich, John Jermanis, Cal Jewell, Aaron Kuhn, Joe
Petrow, Bob Rusbasan, Dave Sawyer, Slick Rick Scaia, Diamond Dave
Scherer, Darren Scott, Bill Shorter, Gary Will, and the Million
         MODO Man, Christopher Zimmerman.
       - In particular, I'd like to extend special thanks to Herb Kunze, Scott
Lacy, Jason Steeves, and Hisaharu Tanabe for their extensive help in
         compiling this document.

The following are moves I wish to add to the list, but have not seen yet,
and so am lacking descriptions of them. If you know what they are and can
describe them to me, please email me. Also, forward any further corrections,
additions, or suggestions to me. Thanks.
