Could some one clarify something for me. Remember that silly show, Step by
Step on TGIF? During their opening credits, they show a park with a water
ride and large coaster in the background.  I've never been to Cedar Point
(though will go this summer) but I think that that is where they shot it?
Any confirmations? Thanks.

All the previous posts were right, it's Colossus at Magic Mountain.
Also if you look closely, you can see that the front cover on the Morgan
train has been removed because it has a large, colorful "Colossus" logo
on the front.  On the TV show, all you can see is the steel support
structure that holds the front wheels of the train and supports the
front cover.  It looks pretty funny actually to anyone that has seen
what the train normally looks like!

The intro to "Step by Step," starring Suzzanne Summers and the guy who played JR on Dallas, was
filmed at Six Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA, about 20 minutes north of LA.   The white wooden
roller coaster is called Colossus, and the water you "saw" was superimposed over the parking lot.
If you notice, there are large, brown rolling hills in the background, not exactly reminiscent of
Cedar Point.  Anyway, enjoy your trip to Cedar Point, and maybe someday, while visiting LA, you too
can ride THE Colossus at Magic Mountain.

Peace!

Rob

I think it's Collosus at Magic Mountian.  The waves in the water look really
really fake so I think they blocked out the parking lot and made the computer
generated waves.

Yeah, I remember the show.  Suzanne Summers and Patrick Duffy.  Yoiks!
Anyway, the shot of a beachside park  is really a crappy special effect.  The
next time it comes on (Look for reruns)  Look at the lands end, it  is
*extremely* cheap, you can totally tell the edited it together real late the
night before the show first aired.
The park is Six Flags Magic Mountain.  And that racing woodie along the
beach, is Collosus which unfortunatley does not tun along a beach, rather a
parking lot.  A las, Hollywood life really is better than reality...even if it
includes Patrick Duffy.
Have fun at the Point this summer!

You can tell it's fake. if you watch it, the water moves from side to side as
the shot of the coaster moves in the opposite direction. It is real bad
editing.

Not to be confused with THE Colossus ferris wheel at Riverside... ;-)

(Sorry, that's what pops into my head every time I see a thread about
Colossus...)

Another thing if you think about it, a roller coaster would NEVER be built that
close to the beach ON THE SAND. It would be destroyed the first storm of the
winter season...

No, it isn't. As stated before, it's Colossus at SFMM. With cheap
water effects pasted over the parking lot.

Perhaps you're not familiar with the Great White at Wild Wheels Pier?
It's built right on the beach, and the Sea Serpent and Nor' Easter are
pretty close too....(maybe 10ft over the sand..)
