Hopefully, many of you out there are busily filling out your ballots.
Thanks again to the 55 people who have sent their ballots to me in the
first week.  I hope to get many more than the 132 I received last year.

  For those of you who haven't, here is a <A
HREF="http://www.hitchhikers.net/wcoaster">link </A> to a page where you
can get a ballot.
I have also added links there to comments made by some of our most
pre-eminent r.r-c citizens about the annual poll and a link to
preliminary results of this year's poll.

  Please help "get out the vote" by providing a link from your roller
coaster related site to the ballot page.

  So far, there are two 'new for 1998' coasters ranked VERY highly,
three in the top 30, and all six in the top 40.

  Also, I am looking for any volunteers who would like to do some of the
work in creating a ballot for a steel tracked coaster poll.  I will run
a steel poll if and only if I can get volunteers to create a
comprehensive ballot for me.  For all those who have expressed an
interest over the years, this is your chance.

This is interesting, and I'll admit to peeking.  But, I would prefer not to
know the results until they are FINAL.  Wouldn't want to encourage people, who
might notice one of their favorites farther down the list than they think it
deserves, to try stuffing the ballot box to compensate.

Great idea!  Why didn't I think of this!  Doing it right now....[opening
Homesite...editing...saving...uploading...DONE!]

Also, an idea for Chris, the button man:  "Coast the Vote!" buttons.

Names can be trademarked, but not copyrighted.  As long as you don't use
the trademarked logo, there shouldn't be any problem with listing the names
on a button.

Well, I have a world-wide coaster census (even better than the one on
Coasterville), in the form of an Excel spreadsheet, that I will donate
to the cause.  (I can filter out wood coasters and create a steel only
database)

Let's see you need Coaster Name, Park Name, State (or country code).
Given a little time and enrergy I could produce that.

BTW: For those interested, I am planning on making my Coaster Census
Database (in Excel) available for download at Coasterville.  966
entries as of now.
