Lake Compounce news - JJR

Just a brief elaboration on Pete's post regarding Stretch
Norton's talk last Saturday (yes I was there, I should have
mixed and mingled more).  I don't remember him saying that
Funtime is "buying" LC, but they are "putting money in".  The
other part of that story, which I believe has been discussed
here, is that they expect $18 Million from Connecticut (the
Governor is supposed to sign this week).  Otherwise, I was
really impressed with Stretch Norton's candor and good humored
approach.  If anyone should be in the driver's seat at LC, it
should be him.  Now, how can I move to Bristol and be a part of
it??  It will be interesting these next few years.

P.S.  Notice that I put my initials in my post Title.  Does
anyone think this is a good idea, like a kind of message
screening device?  I know that there are some folks whose
posts I read religiously, and knowing their identities before
digging in to the whole message could save time when I am trying
to catch up on 150 messages (less than a week's worth it seems).

That MIGHT be a handy idea, except for a couple of things--

a.  TRN will show you the names of all of the posters in a given thread,
making it redundant.  Although TIN only shows the name of the person who
started the thread.

b.  Most people who (F)ollowup a post are too lazy to change the initials
in the subject header, so in a long thread, only the orignal poster's
initials remain.

JJR:  Are you using a newsreader which supports memorized commands?  Some
threaded newsreaders allow you to include a list of author names to
auto-select messages for reading...sort of a "kill" file in reverse...

Indeed, things are moving along for Lake Compounce nicely (and no, Dave
Althoff, they are NOT changing the park's name to Compounce Lake, even
though they are now managed by Funtime, Inc.).

The park will be transformed in a 3-phase project over the next few years
into a serious, full-blown theme park.  The theme will be centered around
New England's rich history, featuring many shops and performers in period
costumes.  Over $30M will be invested into the park when all is said and
done.

The park opens in May 1995 for full-time business (no more 4-day operating
seasons for them!).  The existing attractions will all be revamped over
the winter, as well as 4 new "carnival"-type rides will be added to the
midway.

Phase 1 will be the Water Park and general inprovements
Phase 2 will be the cliffside 300' steel coaster
Phase 3 will be -- i forget right now  ;')

Hopefully one of the general improvements will be fin-style brakes for
the park's wooden WILDCAT coaster.  Rumours are (unconfirmed) that they
will be adding a new computer and braking systems, as well as a second
train to the coaster.  We'll see...
