Did the new retracking job of the Giant's first drop really make a difference
as far as looks?  I haven't seen it yet and someone told me it's much steeper
now...just wanted to confirm

At Winterfest in January we were told that the Texas Giant is not being
reprofiled, they are just maintaining it. I don't believe that they could make
the first drop steeper without having to make other major changes to the ride.

It looks about the same. We won't know till that first
run. 8-)

The drop was not retracked, as much as completely
rebuilt. The ride was designed with a test track, using
a steel I-Beam, and two layers of wood on it. This is
what has given such a unique sound to the drop. The
I-Beam ended right at the bottom of the drop, causing
the frequent pothole to form, where the steel bed
changed to wood bed.

The change is that the I-Beam has been removed,
and a regular wood bed track has been laid.
