SFGAdv rumor....bye-bye Viper???

Post by Zolta » Thu, 24 Jul 1997 04:00:00

Rumors from interior SF sources say that Viper may be moved from SFGAdv to
the other togo prototype park SF owns.  Rumored is a new woodie for SFGAdv
at Viper site and back.  (Maybe distroy RT since its in such shitty shape?
That would make sense due to lack of care on the ride, but distroy a 18
year old racing
one-of-a-kind-woodie-that-would-be-a-top-10-if-it-was-cared-for-coaster).

THIS IS JUST A CHEAP RUMOR.  I HAVE NO VALIDATION AT THIS POINT!

I just LOVE SFGAd rumors mostly because they never come true!
And...sometimes these rumors come from very reliable sources but are
changed last minute any way. This seems to happen a lot at SFGAd. Let's
leave it at that.

We all dream of the day  they'll get a new woodie but quite frankly I hope
that never happens since RT is not kept the way it should. Still, it would
be cool to have two woodies side by side unless SFGAd rips both RT and
Viper out. This wouldn't be the first time they eliminate two coasters for
one. As much as I dislike Viper, I would still hate to see it go because
this park has the potential to house many coasters. I, and I'm sure many
other people, like variety.

I've heard rumors last year about a *big* long wood coaster to be located
in the woods across the lake with the station being somewhere near or
behind the Amphitheater. Sounds great, but I seriously doubt that anything
like this would ever happen. Imagine...a new coaster longer than 2 minutes
long! Ah, we could always dream, can't we?

A new rumor I heard this year was about the removal of the Sky Ride. Of
course, that same source also said that B&R broke due to gum getting stuck
in the LIMs.

Personally, I wouldn't mind seeing a new B&M coaster- prototype or
stand-up. This would make sense for SFGAd as would a new wood coaster. I
mean, what else doesn't this park have?

At this point, we all pretty much know that Six Flags announced a 5-year
expansion plan for their NJ venue but besides some factory outlets and
road work (done by the township or county) we haven't seen anything yet.
Does anyone know what's going on with that? Will we see Hurricane Harbor
in 1998?

Here's to the 1998 SFGAd Rumor Mill! Enjoy your ride!!

I had heard by a pretty reliable source that the rumored wooden coaster
was to come to SFGAd, but they ran into financial problems.  According to
this person the blue-prints have been sitting at the park for this woodie
for about 2 or 3 years, but they have had problems.  As you know all of
Six Flags new woodies are built in house, thats where the problems come
about.  According to this person the ride was to have 2 lifts, one of
which was to have a drop of about 170 feet.  And the ride was to be about
13000 feet long.   The ride was supposedly to be a bigger footprint of The
Beast at PKI.  I live in KY, but if they built a big version of the Beast,
with NO brakes.  I would be traveling over to NJ.

I certainly hope they don't remove Viper.  I am NOT a big fan of the ride, but
they need to keep adding coasters.  The park is just getting to where there is
some variety.  If they still had the Shockwave and kept the Ultra Twister
instead of the Viper, the park would be loaded with good rides.  I will take
the Batman for Lightning Loops tradeoff any day.  However, they need to work on
KEEPING rides.  With the amount of people in NJ and those coming in from NY/PA/
MD/etc. , they can't afford to take rides out.  Remember the year Batman came
in ?  If they get like 2 more quality coasters in over the next few years AND
manage to keep all the ones they have now, the park will be a very pleasant
place to go.  It will also help spread the lines out and get some people out of
MOVIE TOWN !!!!!

Financial Problems?  Maybe 6 years ago but certainly not today!!!  Budget
cuts, yes NOT financial problems.  SFTP continues to set RECORD EBITDA
each year since 1992's host of changes with new owner, TWarner.  BVentures
has stayed pretty silent about capital spending desired by TWE who is now
minority owner of the chain.  AFter all, TWE mgmt. has been lining the
pockets of BV!!!
