Trying to design coaster seats in autocad Need Help

Post by G.Boo.. » Thu, 22 Sep 2005 05:14:51

I have been trying off and on to design a roller coaster in AutoCad
(3D) and I have started by working on the seats first. My problem is
that I have made seat pan/seat plates, but I cannot figure out how to
draw the foam/*** that is basically coating these seat pans. I just
can't figure out how to draw the same radiuses of curves and everything
so the foam/*** follows the exact contour of the seat pan shape. The
seats I want to design are similar to B&M seats where it is just the
frame of the seat with the foam/*** padding covering the seat.
Please if you can, give advice.

I think you need to consult with an AutoCAD newsgroup instead of r.r-c.
This is a software issue, and this group is more likely to help you with
the hardware.

I think there are probably a fair number of people here who are into solid
modeling - I used SolidWorks for 5 years and am now using Solid Edge (which
I hate), but designing seats - yeah, that's always the a) place to start
with a ride and b) the hardest part of a ride. :)

I chose to avoid the complicated design of moulded seats and go with
something that is far easier to fabricate, is still attractive/agressive
looking, and is fairly comfortable.

lol, I am working with autocad not only to have fun, but to stay fresh
in it with practice, I have taken a couple semesters in it, that is
why. Plus, doing it in autocad is sweet because you actually have no
limits, the only limit there is your imagination. Thank you all for
your responses.

Another limit is that (I think) there is no FEA program that
will work with AutoCAD.  Ansys and Cosmos will work with
Solidworks, but not AutoCAD.  Autodesk also has not come out
with an integrated FEA program with new releases of AutoCAD
like there are for ProE (ProM) and IDEAS.

But for this particular application I don't think that FEA
is needed.  :-)
