Son of Beast - dire predictions

When I first heard of the new PKI coaster, I thought wow!  But, after
thinking about it, I really don't think coaster enthusiasts show get
their hopes up.  The reason can be summed up in a question.

What mega woody ever built has not gone through some reprofiling and
additional breaks?  The answer none!  Is there any mega woody that does
not have breaks on the first drop?

The simple fact is, in my opinion, wood is just not suitable for mega
coasters.  All mega wooden coasters have gotten too rough and management
has had to slow them down.  Either they don't know how to maintain them,
or they won't maintain them, or they are impossible to keep smooth.

Just look at what's happened to Hercules, Mean Streak, Rattler, even the
Texas Giant.  The same thing will happen to Son of Beast.  Just look at
the original Beast with all the breaks.  The history is there.  Why
would things be any different now.  It's inevitable folks.

Don't get me wrong.  I LOVE mega coasters.  I LOVE huge drops.  And when
the above mentioned mega woodies opened I LOVED their drops. I think
Hercules had the best drop ever on a wooden coaster.  But, I think parks
should leave the mega coasters to steel.

Even if they do have to put brakes in after the first year, I am still
looking forward to one hell of a ride that first year. The first year Mean
Streak ran was unbelievable in my opinion. Last year I experienced a
brakeless ride on it (late at night, just before closing) and the ride was
awesome. Just make sure you get to PKI sometime next year before they do
start ruining it, because after that it will probably be like the Beast and
there will only be a couple good rides late at night when the brakes are
turned down.

You should be happy for PKI in 2000. Did you know about the wider track
gauge??  Or how about the specially designed trains from Premier??...I'm sure
PKI didn't just go and spend over 10 mill for this monster and then a couple
years down the road, know they will have to reprofile it. Sure, it will have
trim brakes, but I don't see SOB getting reprofiled anytime soon. :)

The Beast, the world's longest wooden roller coaster.
Son of Beast, the world's tallest, fastest, and only looping wooden roller
coaster.
Coming in 2000.
Only at Paramounts Kings Island.

I'm sure CP said the same thing when they built Mean Streak, Dorney when
they did Hercules, and even when Busch built Drachen Fire.

Can't you just see a nice, long, straight section where the loop is?
:-)

I too have my worries about this ride. Not the layout necessarily, those
drops are going to be killer, but for the future. 20 years down the road
will it ride like a Kennywoodie or Mean Streak? Mind you a lot of the
problems with woodies nowadays are the trains. The Racer and Beast track
really well, but the trains are terrible. Although I have my doubts and
worries, there is that thought in the back of my mind that Paramount and
Tim Fisher have looked into this and have come up with SOMETHING!
