Parks like Kings Island are nearing the end of daily operations.  With school stared or starting, now is a great time to go to a park.  My girlfriend and I and going Kings Island in a couple weeks during the week and since school will be in session, I can't wait because I hate lines (though waiting in lines now are not such a bad thing when you have someone to talk to).

Early spring and the fall are when I do most of my coastering. I
really only hit up BGW during peak season as it's my home park and the
operations are top notch (just don't go on a Saturday).

I tend to disagree.

The parks are cutting their hours earlier and earlier in the season, the
weekday operation ends earlier and earlier, and on the days that the
park is open, it is the second most crowded time of the year.  The most
crowded time, of course, is during the halloween events.

Not at Six Flags Great Adventure.  Schools in New Jersey, New York, and Eastern Pennsylvania don 't start until after Labor Day (as they should).  The park is still open daily until then and gets very crowded the last two weeks of August.  New Yorkers especially seem to like to take vacations and visit parks in late August, as they're probably used to places being less crowded since kids are back in school in other areas.  Meanwhile, the park starts losing staff in mid-August as they head back to college or on their own vacations.

Correct, it's all about the school schedule and when the parks cut back hours.    The primetime season is all of July, and the 1st two weeks of August.   You can look on the web site for most parks, and you'll see they start to cut back hours at the end of August.

I could care less when the park closes because I go early in the morning and don't stay late.   The bummer is the parks close during the week as the season ends.    That means going on the weekend when crowds are more.

I'm flying up to Hartford to visit Lake Compounce and SFNE at the end of August.   They're cutting back hours but SFNE is still open during week.  After that the parks are only open on the weekend.   I planned it so I'm going on a Sunday and Monday.    My theory is the parents are working, and won't take the kids.   The locals may go as day care, but the parents won't be there.

Labor Day is very slow at SFGAdv.  I've been in NYC for an electronic dance
music festival for the last two years and have gone to SFGAdv both years on
Labor Day Monday.  It was absolutely dead, especially as the afternoon got
later, and the kids headed home to pick out there clothes and otherwise
prepare for school.

Last year, even with Ka closed, by mid-afternoon, lines were nearly
non-existent, and by the last hour or two there weren't any lines anywhere
in the park.  In the late afternoon, I rode both Superman and Green Lantern
10 times each without getting off (other than to change seats once or
twice.)  In the last hour, they were actually letting people stay on El
Toro, something I'd never seen before.  (On other visits, even if it was
slow, they still made everyone walk around.)

This year, I won't be there, since I'll be in South Korea on that day!

I've noticed the holidays are always slow. Memorial Day, Labor Day,
whatever. Maybe not THAT slow but not "OMG it's a crazy holiday packed
park!" either.

People are traveling on that 3rd day of the weekend, not going to
parks.

Correct, I forgot to tell my other story about Memorial Day 2009 (May 22-25).   I went to KI and rode Diamond Back, then up to CP for the weekend.    I flew out on Tuesday.    Monday was the holiday.    I stayed at Breakers Express, went to CP Monday morning and did the thrill ride tour.    That afternoon I was walking the hallways at Breakers Express and the hotel was a complete ghost town.   But all of the rooms were open with the maids putting the bed sheets in the hallways.    The hotel had been complete full for the holiday weekend, but now it was empty Monday afternoon.   And no one was showing up to check in.

That means if you want to visit CP for Gate Keeper in 2013, fly there May 27th, and visit the park May 28th and 29th.  This would go for any park.   There is a crowd Monday morning, but then everyone checks out of their hotel room and drives home.

If I go to CP in 2013, I'll try to fly on Monday May 27th, depends on the plane ticket prices.

Got to the park around noon.  Diamondback was a few train wait in the station.  After two rides, we headed over to the water park.  The cooler weather has really made the water temps drop so we headed over to the wave pool.  I loved how you could use a tube in the wave pool.  the only other water park I went to is Holiday World's where you can't use tubes in the pool.  After that, went and played some sand volleyball.  After finding out of the no goggles policy in the water park, we went into the dry park.  Rode Stunt Coaster and then made our way over to Vortex.  I wasn't too thrilled to ride it, but Sarah has never rode it.  After the ride, she knew why I don't like riding it.  My head hurt really bad, so we decided to go for broke and make it explode by riding Flight of Fear.  We went to get something to drink in the fest haus and then went to ride Diamondback two more times before leaving the park.
