I was at sixflags today.....wed. june 25...........they were running the
ride with no people and sandbags in the seats....the harnesses are all
changed and the lims are back in.  It may be ready to reopen on July 4
if not sooner.  I also found out that this winter Batman will be getting
renovations.....a new paint job most likely...mabey they will fix up the
line themeing.  There is also more good news.....a woodie is in the
planning stages.....probably for season of '99.  Someone said it will be
called jersey giant or some crap...im not sure. GADV is also starting
constuction on a waterpark....mabey opening mid season next year....I
have some more info on stuff other than rollercoasters....if there is a
demand I will post it.

Where are they going to put this new woodie and water park?  Does anyone
know if this has been confirmed or denied?  Zoltar usually knows the most
about Great Adventure...  Where are you Ed??

The water park is a strong possibilty for 1998.  Notice the parking lot
expansion that occured this year in preparation.  The location, while I
havent seen drawings is told to be to the left of the enterance road.

The new woodie is also a strong possibility for the next few years.  SF
does have new coasters for GAdv in their 5 year plan.  Most probable
location is Adventure Rivers.  The flume is rumored to be removed for this
ride along with the never used North American Tower.  Balance of coaster
would go out toward the lake, to the rear of Congo Rapids.  However, they
should fix their woodie up before they have chain to let another one look
and ride like defical matter!

When I was there (a week ago), the Chiller stood silent in the clouds. I
would have loved to have even seen the sandbags riding it  - just to see
they way it runs. Oh well.....
This wooden coaster thing sounds great, but I really hope they think
twice about the name. I mean, "Jersey Giant"? Geez, just call it
"GIANT", that sounds more threatening (one word names always sound like
the ride is serious stuff). I mean - imagine if Busch Gardens TOC's
newest coaster was called "The ***a Alpengiest". Hehe...
It's like "The Great American Scream Machine"; another lame name. The
"Scream Machine" would have sufficed  IMO. :-)

Thanks for the report...

Yeah, according to what was laid out last year when SFGAd announced their
5 year expansion plan, the water park (Hurricane Harbor) will be located
to the left of the entrance road. This, meaning, once you enter the park's
grounds, over the highway, and towards the Safari, the water park would be
on the left hand side. The expansion of parking which took place this
season I don't believe is for the water park. The water park will have its
own parking and a loop road that will circle the entire park. According to
the original plans, the water park was to be pretty big...something like
70+ acres if I remember correctly. However, I'm sure this includes
parking.

I've dreamed of the day they remove Adventure Rivers. I HATE that
area...such a waste of space! The North American tower is barely used or
open for that matter. I hope you're wrong however about the flume
(Irrawady Riptide, formally known as the Moon Flume and Splash Down in the
pre-AR days). That flume is fun and usually has much shorter lines than
the Frontier log flume. Plus, it's been a park fixture since just a couple
of years after it opened.
Now, I'm not going to begin to speculate about future coasters but somehow
I doubt very much that SFGAd would get another woodie. I mean, gee, how
"old" would that be? The park always tries to keep up with the new fad
technologies and a woodie would be a step backwards! That wouldn't attract
the gp! (please note the extreme sarcasm). Any way, I've heard rumors of a
B&M in the future which would certainly be welcomed but who knows...things
will change over the next few years any way.
Back to Adventure Rivers....does anyone know if it will be taken out as
soon as the water park opens (if and when it does). It certainly would
free up a lot of land!

When was the Adventure Rivers area put in at Great Adventure?
