SOMETHING COOLER IS COMING TO HERSHEYPARK IN 2009!

After hearing reports for over a year now, Hersheypark announced today
that Canyon River Rapids will be replaced to make room for a Wave Pool
called "The Shore" and a Lazy River called the "Intercoastal
Waterway".  The "expansion" will be called BOARDWALK: The SEAqel

Read all about it here:

http://www.hersheypark.com/boardwalk/seaquel/index.php

The podcast video can be found here:

http://www.hersheypark.com/boardwalk/seaquel/multimedia.php

Nothing is said anywhere on the web site about when Canyon River
Rapids (my all-time personal favorite ride to operate at Hersheypark)
will be shut down forever (either mid-season or end of the season)
athough the park may have said something at today's press
announcement.  (Anyone know more about when CRR will give its last
rides?)  The podcast does report that construction on the Wave Pool
will begin shortly.  The nearby Rodeo (Trabant) ride will also be
removed but it's uncertain as to its fate.

From what was relayed to me by park management.... "Current plans are
for the final weekend of operation for Canyon River Rapids to be on
August 16th and 17th (Saturday/Sunday)."  So if you want to ride it
one last time, do it soon."

CRAP!  I was at Hershey on the 7th and I didn't ride it simply because
I just didn't want to get wet that day.  Canyon River Rapids is my all
time favorite rapids ride.  I'd rush right back and ride it, but
unfortunately I live in TX and don't really get to PA very often so it
looks like I'm SOL.

Writing this on Wednesday, July 22, 2008....

Your last day to ride Canyon River Rapids at Hersheypark is scheduled
for Sunday, August 17th.  Only 3-1/2 weeks left to go (as of today's
date) before it is silenced forever!  :o(

Crowds on the weekdays have not been all that bad this year, with many
guests heading for the park's new Fahrenheit roller coaster.  Since
CRR is located right across from Hersheypark's new steel coaster, stop
on by for a true drenching experience for relief from the heat!
