Predictions for CP

Post by Paul » Mon, 20 Apr 1998 04:00:00

As the title says, this is only a prediction..

With the addition of Power Tower(s) in 1998, Cedar Point will have no
use for the first generation freefall Demon's Drop.  You can get
[almost] the same thrill from the Power Towers and more, so there will
be no need for it.

In 1999, the Hotel Breakers expansion will go on as planned, and Cedar
Point may only add a flat ride or something small that won't cost too
much - as the expansion costs will be pretty hefty.

In 2000, Cedar Point will re-zone the Demon's Drop location and
install a B&M sitdown vertical drop coaster [ala Oblivion], with added
elements that will rise above the Planation bingo hall and games area
[the buildings].  It will be called Millenium.

-- Well, there you have it, those are only predictions, but it sounds
a lot more feasable than the 'b&m 350 ft. sit down multilooper
coaster' that everyone keeps mentioning.  I know they have to remove
Demon's Drop - it's a maintinance(sp?) workers nightmare anyway!  And
it takes up a bit of room.

There ya have it!

Predictions for CP

Post by DJMH » Mon, 20 Apr 1998 04:00:00

I am thinking that we will see a coaster in 1999 AND or 2000.  The reason is
simple.  The construction of the hotel has already began so I am thinking that
CP would have to start paying for the construction now.  That is because the
Power Tower could not have cost any more than 5 million tops, they still have
enough money to invest in the hotel and still have enough money to build a new
coaster for '99.  I also think that they will keep the demom drop for a while.
I understand that it is a maintence nightmare but it really doesn't take up
THAT much room.  Well hopefully I will see some of you next Sunday (26th) at CP
to get your season passes.  I know that will meet sean and dave up there.  Well
talk to you later.

Predictions for CP

Post by Dr Evil4 » Mon, 20 Apr 1998 04:00:00

I have a feeling CP will build a regular sit-down or B&M launch sit-down
coaster. Reason is I believe they want to wait a while before also making a
better version of the Oblivion. Also CP really needs a sit-down. I think it
will be in the lagoons area, on the island and in the water. A lot of room is
there. I believe that the coaster will be a next step for the model of coaster
it is. Just look at  the other B&M coasters and Power Tower. They are not new
rides but they are bigger versions of rides with new elements added on them.
Raptor was the first inverted coaster to have 3 trains, a corba roll and it was
the first to be in the 3700-3900 foot range of track length. Almost 1000 feet
longer than any other inverted. Mantis was the same but was the first to have a
inclined loop and a dive loop on it. It was also 1000 feet longer than any
other stand-up. PT is the first to have 2 towers with 2 different rides going
at the same time on it. It is also about 50-100 feet taller than older Space
Shots, Turbo Shots. What I am saying is I believe that the next cp coaster will
have 2 more loops then Dragon Khan at 10 or 2 more loops than Hulk at 9. It
will also feature 2 new loops for that type of ride. Maybe a inclined loop,
immelman, a B&M cutback, a SLC first loop, or maybe a top hat or even a
batwing. It will also be 1000 feet longer than any other sit-down meaning it
will be in the 5000 feet long range, being close to a mile. And knowing CP the
height of the ride will be taller than any other sit-down regular or launch
meaning that for launch it will be close to 110-120 feet tall and for a regular
it will be in the range of 130-150 feet tall. Also I believe that it will have
a original layout that has older elements in it but in a different order than
any other ride. Personally since al other B&M coasters have been in new colors
I believe that the coaster will be in a purple and while color because no other
coaster at CP has those colors. Also I believe it will have a animal name
because the other CP B&M coaster have animal names(Raptor, Mantis). If it is
built over water I can see the name Tiberon(if that is speeled correctly) or
maybe Kraken.

Predictions for CP

yeah, i agree with this.. cp almost has to get a new coaster... soon..
because just a new wing on the hotel (i know, a big wing) is not much to
keep people satisfied and they (cp) have to know that.. they haven't gotten
a coaster since mantis which was WAY back in what? '96? yeah well.. i can't
see them waiting for '00, which is a four year "coaster drought"... i'm
definately going this year.. (may 16th) because of power tower, and of
course all other coasters are bringing me back.. but if they don't get
anything next year... ('99), i probably won't make it my top priority to
make it there, although i can never get sick of there coasters... but i
definately expect a huge sitdown... i just have a feeling we didn't see
something like this for this year, because they are really going to hit us
hard with something that's going to blow all other coasters away..
when did they announce power tower.. does anyone remember? it was a little
before the close of the season wasn't it? well.. we'll find out for next
year soon enough...

Agreed, but it will also stretch over the Midway between the Meanstreak and
Gemini.  Rumors state that there has been a lot of surveying action in that
area.  This spot probably will have the cobra roll or top hat because it a
perfect location for a signature element.  This also means the possible
relocation of the restrooms in that location.

OR

The Camper Village has been hacked away piece by piece for the past ten
years.  This new coaster will require it's removal, thus giving the Magnum a
neighbor.  Station located behind Meanstreak behind Boneville.  Queue begins
between Gemini and train crossing, and will have a footbridge crossing the
driveway behind Gemini.  The entire coaster will be practically hidden from
that portion of the midway, ala Beast or PKI Top Gun but without the trees.

Name - maybe it's not to late to reconsider Banshee ;) Seriously, now that
CF's empire is growing, perhaps a Knott's name will show up like Jaguar or
Ripsaw.

Remember, this is just a hunch.  It might happen.  It probably won't.

Thats a good point. I can see them building a coaster in 99 or 2000 just
depended on if they feel Power Tower + the hotel were not to expensive I can
see them making a new ride in 99. But also I would like to see one in 2000
because it is the millium and all.

Don't forget Stuntman's Freefall at SFGAd.  It's identical to Demon Drop--I
rode them a week apart.

One thing to keep in mind about CP in 1999 is that the hotel expansion
is in the 1998 budget and not 1999.  That is what I was told.

Don't forget that Soak City could be expanded as well in the next
couple of years...the point seems to expand the water park every now
and then. We could also see more Spin & Barf rides as well.

If Cedar Fair had only signed for 3 B & M rides and the 3rd one goes
into another park besides Cedar Point (I think one is planned for
another park, but i've forgotten) then we might not see another B & M
ride until well past 2005... I read once there was a rumour that B & M
were booked till 2005 (this was last year), so who knows if Cedar Fair
has renegotiated a contract.

Keep in mind there are other manufacturers out there as well: Arrow,
Morgan, Schwarzkopf, Intamin, Togo, ect. that may build the 'next big
thing'  and the 'next big thing' might very well be a higher Space
Spiral, or the return of the Pirate Ride.

Lets just enjoy what they've got now and rejoice about what they'll be
getting later :-)

Cedar Point has stated that Demon Drop will not be removed. Also, Demon
Drop is a 48" ride, Power Tower is 52", so many more young kids will be
able to ride Demon Drop. I'm sure CP sees the logic behind this for
family groups.

Predictions for CP

Post by tungste » Wed, 22 Apr 1998 04:00:00

this is just a queston, but do you think B&M would really book themselves
that far in advance, especially in this type of constantly changing
industry? i mean, i'm just asking your opinions, i'm just wondering...

and they just expanded soak city a couple years back, that was there whole
year project.. '95 i think? year before mantis, not sure...

and do we know that B&M IS actually booked up? or our we just implying
that? i don't think they are going to make everything public... especially
because cedar point doesn't announce things until the fall before..

well? comments
