PA Hotel Help Needed

Post by Juli » Mon, 05 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hi all!

My boyfriend Geoff and I are planning a PA trip around the time of UPC.
I got some great hotel advice from a good friend, but I still need a few
suggestions for the following parks:

Conneaut Lake  (I've heard not to stay at the hotel on the lake)
SFGAd (2 nights)

I'm looking for something cheap, but not exactly a dive - in a good
area.

I'm also thinking about going to Coney Island on Friday, July 30th, but
will be staying at the same hotel that we'll stay at for SFGAd.  Is this
a good idea?  (Drive time, safeness)  Also, what else is neat to see in
the New York Ciy area that's a decent driving distance from Coney
Island?  After going to the park, I think we'll have time to be
tourists.  :)

Thanks in advance for any help you can give.

Um, what isn't there to see?  It's New York City.  Take your pick.

If your in NY on a Sunday dont miss Times Square Church! You might meet Jesus
Christ, the living God, whose love is better than life itself!
 Happy coasting!

You must be referring to the Hotel Conneaut, and if your really into modern
convenience (air conditioning/TV/telephones, etc.) I would also recommend
you look elsewhere.  BUT if you would like a virtual trip back in time, not
to mention the convenience of staying right in the park I would strongly
suggest you give it a try.  Also on Saturday they had a sign out
advertising rooms for $19.95 Sunday-Thursday.  You can reach Conneaut Lake
Park and the Hotel Conneaut at 814-382-5115, if the Hotel Conneaut isn't to
your liking they will gladly tell you of other options in the area (there
are several "mom and pop" motels very close to the park).

Do you really want to go to Coney Island, which I assume you mean
Astroland.  Perhaps you should visit their web site first at
http://SportToday.org/, which is one of the links at our web site.

If you talk to people who live in New York they will urge you to stay
away from Coney Island, but this is just an opinion of others as I
have never been to Coney.  I would suggest Dorney Park and Wildwater
Kingdon, the Jersey shore parks or Six Flags Great Adventure instead.
If you are on a low budget and cannot afford a car or expensive hotel,
then Allentown PA is the perfect location.  You can fly into NY or
Newark NJ, then take a Transbridge bus to Allentown.

Now you are perfectly located to:

Take the Transbridge commuter bus into NY and visit FAO Schwarz,
Planet Hollywodd for lunch, the Statue of Liberty, Empire State
building etc.

Take the city Dorney bus Mon to Sat (last return is 5:30pm or take a
taxi home)

Take the *** bus any day to Atlantic City and/or transfer to the
Jersey express bus to Ocean City and visit Gillians.

Get into NY early and take the Great Adventure bus, which I think
leaves at 9:30.

E-mail me if you need more help.  And good luck.

I really appreciate your advice, but I'm already going to Dorney &
SFGAd.  I've opted to go to Coney/Astroland because I want to see the
Thunderbolt before it's gone.  Plus!  My #2 Woodie - Viper at SFGAm (my
home park) is a clone of the Cyclone and I'd love to compare the two.

We actually have a huge trip planned...  Thurs., July 23 - Sat., July 31

Conneaut Lake
Kennywood
UPC
Hershey Park
WG
Dorney
SFGAd
Coney Island
Clementon Lake

We'll be staying at a hotel near SFGAd, (which I still don't have an
answer to... any suggestions out there?  Yes, I still have to check out
the WWLG, but if ANYONE knows of a good hotel, I'd really love to hear
your recommendation!) and we'll drive into NY on Fri. morning/early
afternoon, and driving back to the same hotel that evening/late
afternoon.  Is the commuter bus accessible from there?

Thanks again!

Julie, don't think of them as clones because they really are NOTHING alike..
trust me on that.  Ok...they have one thing in common, they are both
excellent coasters!
