Anyone know what thrill rides are available
at Island Adventure?   How does this compare
to Busch Gardens in Tampa?   Which would
you recommend for one choice only?

Thanks.

I'm sure there's no easy answer.  Go to the one that appeals and have a good
time - as i'm sure you will.

IOA:
Coasters: (Clockwise from 6)
Hulk -- excellent B&M tire-launched coaster. Incredible first half that gets
lost a bit towards the end

Pteradon Flyers -- very cool Setpoint single-bar inverted. Nab in the first
30min for an *** ride

Flying Unicorn -- decent Vekoma(?) junior. More to it than you'd expect from
a kid's ride.

Dueling Dragons (Fire and Ice) -- Very excellent B&M dueling inverted. Ice
has the better start, but Fire's the better all around - rides like a longer
version of Batman.

Others:
Doc Doom's Fear Fall -- mediocre S&S spaceshot w/ good theming and excellent
sound FX
Spider-man -- Insanely good simulator. Incredible theming.
Dudley Do-Right's Ripsaw Falls -- perhaps the best flume ride ever
Popeye's... soemthing or other -- Inflatable aft ride. Supposedly excellent.
Jurassic Park... -- decent shoot the chutes, from what I've gathered
Poseidon's... I can never remember the name on this -- ok guided
walk-through show. Apparently improved recently.

The madness that is anything in Seussland, especially Cat in the Hat, the
coolest dark ride ever.

POSEIDON'S FURY.

And it's not "ok"

Poseidon is simply the greatest thing in IoA. It makes sense, the effects are
awesome, the actors are great, and the sets are amazing. It's totally
emmerisive, and really finds a way to draw you out of the "theme park world."

And yes, it has improved a WHOLE LOT since GGE got their hands on it.

Yeah, you're right. I heard it's not "OK" too! Go to BGT.

I found Busch to be over-rated. Montu is over-braked, I found Kumba to
be less enjoyable than Hulk, Gwazi is the worst new wooden coaster I
have head the dis-pleasure of riding and the rest of the park was
good - not stunning.

I enjoy a day at Busch, but given the choice, Islands win by miles.

Regards,
Marcus

Considering that I can ride a coaster in a parking lot (in fact, my #1
borders a parking lot...) and everything else is take it or leave it, PF, no
matter how good, will never be more than an interesting diversion.

Still, the old PF bored me to tears.

It's apples and oranges, really, since IOA is built on the conventional theme
park model, while BGT is a wild animal park (and a very cool one) that sprouted
thrill rides. A fairer comparison would be IOA vs. the Magic Kingdom and BGT
vs. Disney's Animal Kingdom, in which case I'd give the nod to BGT (except for
DAK's India, which has incredible set design) and a big thumbs up to IOA, a
truly great meld of theme and thrill.

<<(except for DAK's India, which has incredible set design)>>

DAK doesn't have India.

DAK beats BGT by leaps and bounds. BGT just feels so dated, and the LAST thing
it feels like is that you're in Africa. Disney got the landscape perfect,
especially in Kilimanjaro Safari, which is FAR more intricately detailed than
Rhino Rally.

I'm not personally a huge fan of either park... and if you're going to only
spend one day, IoA is far the better of the two choices provided...

Yeah, well, essentially all the buildings in "Asia"  are reproductions of
Indian (maybe a little Nepali) architecture and the Maharajah Jungle Trek and
Kali Rapids both have Indian names and Indian themes. Or did I miss the Thai
Stick Coaster and the Tienanmen Twister?

The OP asked about thrill rides, as I recall. Since all DAK has is one so-so
dark ride and one so-so rapids ride, it's clearly way outclassed by BGT in that
department. Even DAK's theming, excellent in much of the park, falls down badly
in the cheapjack Camp Minnie-Mickey and Dinoland sections.
