Bobcoaster?Coasterdan?  Can you guys help a little bit, please?
1.) I need to know a hotel that is a convenient stay in Doswell.
2)  The operating hours (and special events, if any) for August 3rd.
3)  Details on the 1 1/2 day pass (Im arriving in Doswell at around 3:00 pm on
the 2nd).
4)  The best place to go first in the park.
5)  opening time for parking lot/main gate/themed areas/rides.
This is all I need to know about PKD.  If theres anything else that you guys
think I should know, please add it on.  And if you have time, could you also
send me info on BGW for questions 2,4, and 5.  I will be going to BGW on the
4th.  Thanx alot for your time and help.

Right near the park is Best Western King's Quarters, but it's pricy.  You
might want to consider staying 5 minutes down the road in Ashland, VA.  It's exit
92 on I-95.  There is an Econo Lodge, a Travelodge,  Budget Inn, and a couple
others.  There are also lots of gas stations and restaurants on that exit, so it
makes it really convenient.

You can find out the special events on PKD's website (if any), but I'm
pretty sure the hours will be 9:30a.m. to 10:00p.m.

Don't know much about this one.  Sorry.

To avoid lines, I usually start off at OL:FOF or at the Shockwave.  If I start
at OL:FOF, then I just make my rounds of the park.  From OL:FOF to Anaconda, to
Diamond Falls (if you want to do it), to Shockwave, to Rebel Yell (forward and
backward), to Hurler, and last but certainly not least, the Grizzly!  Of course,
if Volcano is open by the time you go, you'll probably want to go there first.

parking lot: 9:00a.m.        main gate:  9:30a.m.
        International Street: 9:30a.m.
Rest of Park: 10:30a.m. (keep in mind that OL:FOF usually doesn't open on
time, so you might want to check out Volcano for a while, or go to Shockwave and
beat the slow line!!!!

Our BIG surprise during last year's trip to PKD was finding Days of
Thunder (now 007) open during the first hour.  We enjoyed both it (as
much as possible) and a trip up the tower prior to waiting next to the
Nickelodeon Splat Zone for the rush to Outer Limits.

I would definitely walk around International Street to see if it's
open prior to the rest of the park.

I would recommend staying at the Best Western King's Quarters....You can
walk to & from the Park (there's a shuttle, too).  The Place is OK (a bit
expensive, as said), but I think it's GREAT to be able to walk back and drop
stuff off that you bought/won or just take a quick nap.  Also, it really
gives you a head start to the park as it's RIGHT THERE!  Give it a
shot....PKD's WEB site www.pkd4fun.com will have info about this hotel and
prices.

PKD trip, I need some HELP!!!!

Post by Roy E Gri » Fri, 31 Jul 1998 04:00:00

Also...there is a great motel...the Palm Leaf, I believe it's called...
along Route 1...  Nothing fancy...but they have nice service, nice
rooms, and it's clean and affordable...and the staff there is very
friendly.  I believe this is right...but the directions are...coming
down I-95, get off at the Ashland (east) exit...make a left onto
Route 1, going southbound, and if I recall correctly, it's about
1/2 mile or so down the road (on Route 1).  Once you get off the
Ashland exit, you'll see a number of hotels also, plus fast food
restaurants, a pancake place, Food Lion, Ukrops (groceries), and
other stores.  I believe that exit off of I-95 is Route 54...I think.

I recommend visiting Ashland...it's a great town...and has a lot of
stuff still...even an Amtrak station.  :)  Ashland is about 5-6 miles
south of Kings Dominion, though.

Off to PKD I go...tomorrow...  :)

For convenience...yes...go to the Best Western King's Quarters...
or, if you're in the mood for camping, there's the Kings Dominion
Campground...with camp store and swimming pool.  Definitely the
most affordable alternative to stay at Kings Dominion!
