Small Carnival in North Brunswick, NJ

If anyone is interested there is a carnival with rides just before Devry
College in North Brunswick, NJ.  Not really sure what types of rides they're
offering.  Devry has been promoting this all week with flyers around campus.
Just thought I'd let everyone know about it.

Nice that you mentioned it, Adam.  You are right -- it *is* a small
carnival.

Some local youth athletic organization sponsors it each year to raise
money.  There's a $2 gate fee and then you purchase ride tickets.  I
believe they offer a POP on a couple of the days for blocks of time
(not Friday or Saturday evening, I'm sure).  It opens around noon on
the weekend and runs pretty late (11 or midnight) on Friday and
Saturday (Sunday it closes its run at 9 PM).   Wear old shoes if you
go - the field will be either muddy or dusty.

I believe the carnival opened last evening and since it's been pouring
here and we've had a tornado watch most of the day, I didn't think to
go look at it this evening (I don't pass it on my way home from work).
Dooley does drive by it twice a day, however, and called me from the
car to say that the Zipper is back.  From visits in past years I can
safely say that the rides they give on it don't last as long as one
would like, but it's one of two times each spring that a Zipper is
within puking distance of my house, so that's cool (there is another
small carnival held on the property of a local Catholic church that
runs a little later in May every year).  Two Zippers come to town,
each less than three miles from my house, and they BOTH appear in May!
I guess I should look at the bright side -- some people *never* get
see a Zipper in their twon, I imagine!  :-)

Don't ask me what other rides and attractions they have (nothing that
interested us) - a few barfmakers and a bunch of kiddie rides, vendors
selling all the usual fried foods that one smells at traveling
carnivals.  The carnival unit that is here now (it's on US 1 near
DeVry, as Adam said) has never brought a roller coaster to town - not
even a kiddie coaster (the name escapes me, but it's not one of the
big operators).  So, unless Dooley is blind and missed it somehow, I
doubt there's one this year, either.

subject line on RRC!)

Or in their *town*, either!  Twon?  I don't type fast enough to do
that... must be tired.  G'night.  :-)

Just when you thought that not *one more word* could be written about
that small carnival currently running in my hometown of North
Brunswick, NJ, I found this in our local weekly newspaper, The
Sentinel:

5th Annual North Brunswick Youth Sports Festival
May 1-5, 2002 (skipping to the remaining days...)

Friday, May 3rd:  6 - Midnight ($2 gate, plus ride tickets)
Lou Russo, WMGQ 98.3 FM - broadcasting live, 6-8 PM
The Shirelles, performing at 8:30 PM

Saturday, May 4th:  2 PM - Midnight (Rides POP 2-6 PM, no $ listed;
also available all day: $2 gate plus ride tickets)
The VooDudes, performing at 8:00 PM
All New (?) Fireworks, 9:30 PM (glad they don't try to reuse the *old*
fireworks; the ad graphic shows dynamite sticks exploding)

Sunday, May 5th:  1 PM to 9 PM ($2 gate, plus ride tickets)
Gospel Hour, 1 PM

"JJ Huggles, The Clown" - appearing nightly (imagine a generic clip
art clown drawing <here>)

Rides by Henry T. Coles Shows

There is another clip art picture of a carnival in the ad that shows a
line drawing of a coaster.  It resembles Westcoaster at Pacific Pier
in Santa Monica, CA.  But don't get your hopes up if you plan to visit
the Festival.  :-)
