CP Predictions -- List 'Em Here, See Who's Closest

Post by Mamoos » Thu, 22 Jul 1999 04:00:00

Hello everyone!

Well, there seems to be a few threads on RRC about tomorrow's announcement.
Normally, speculation and rumors drive me crazy, but since we only have one
more
day, let's at least have some fun with it!

Here's what I'm thinking:

List your predictions in this tread, and let's see who's guess was the
closest!  PLEASE do not turn this thread into some kind of flame war.  No
one's guess should be laughed at or pointed out for any impossibilities that
YOU might find.  Let's just have some fun here for a change!  If you want to
be specific about a coaster's height and length, or the cost of the project,
please do.

Here's my guess:

CP Boardwalk
cost:  approx. $75 Million
coasters: 1--CCI woodie, rebuild of CP's old Cyclone
              1--Intamin steel
flat rides: a dozen new spin-and-pukes
opening:  Memorial Day, 2000
theme:  old-time CP

Next?

Here's mine:

Cost: 50 million
Investment: Roller Coaster, and a dozen flat rides
Designers:  Chance, Intamin, Zamperla
Lifts:  3
Design:  Tallest, fastest, most  loops (10), most lifts, and the longest
complete circuit.

Why I think this:

I think this because the allready have a hyper coaster, but they don't have a
multi looper.

#1 wood:  COMET  (Great Escape)
#2 wood:  WILDCAT
#1 Steel: MEDUSA
#2 Steel: APOLLO'S CHARIOT

Medusa Count: 8
Apollo's Chariot Count: 4
Track Record:34

Most Anticipated Y2K Coaster:  Kraken

CP Predictions -- List 'Em Here, See Who's Closest

Ok, this is not something I usually do, but I actually have a 'guess.'  Back in
'97 when Sarah and I were there with the RCCGB, we got to talk to Richard
Kinsel and asked him about cedar point and how they go about installing new
rides.  He said something to the effect of "We've seen other parks get burned
by prototypes, it's not something we do here.  We like to take existing
technology and expand on it making it bigger and better."  Ok, so assuming
that's still the philosophy today, I was trying to think (also assuming the
track *is* Intamin) of what existing technology that Intamin has that CP could
expand on.  There's the hyper coaster, but CP's already got a hyper, there's
the LIM launched inverted, but I didn't think CP would build another inverted
just 6 years after Raptor, Intamin does stand ups, but CP's already got the
best one.  Then I got to thinking...hmm...Disneyland is getting a sit-down LIM
launched looping coaster by Intamin that's currently under construction.  It's
pretty much proven technology as Intamin have now done 3 magnetic launched
coasters (Superman, ToT, and Volcano), the DL ride isn't setting any records
since it only has one loop so there is room to expand on it and the one thing
that CP doesn't have is a sit down multi-looper or a launched ride.  So that's
my guess, some sort of LIM launched Intamin thing.  Breaking 300 feet? Who
knows.  Like I said, playing the guessing game really isn't my thing, but I
thought this was kind of logical.  Of course, I might be completely off and
they're gonne build a 400 foot coaster that goes to Canada.  And 9 woodies
along the causeway.

Cheers.

actually I see a intamin tracked S&S launced 125mph coaster with a straight
ahead launch and a 420ft 1st hill I do see this monster traveling around the
point, but it won't be the only change, CP will use some more parking lot for
the amu***t park,  and begin the migration to parking on mainland, and
shuttling people to the Point Via Busses/Trams at first, then eventually using
something similar to Disney World as a rapid transit system...

CP Predictions -- List 'Em Here, See Who's Closest

Post by Joel Meriwethe » Thu, 22 Jul 1999 04:00:00

I normally lurk, but this sounded like so much fun, I decided to give my
.02.
I'll even give two ideas (one realistic and one for the hard-core
enthusiast)
1.  Realistic:  I don't think it will be over 300 feet...I think that going
from 265 feet (Fujiyama) to over 300 feet is not a realistic jump in lift
hill heights.  For years, many hypers have been getting taller in much
smaller increments, rather than an exponential jump in height.  Therefore, I
say the ride may be about 275 feet, tops.  I think it will be a
multi-inversion ride, with new and innovative inversions we've never before
been blessed with.  I think it will set records in height (and drop)
lengths, the number of inversions (9 or 10), speed, length of track (7500 -
8500 feet) and, length of ride (3 - 4 minutes).  I think it will be an
Intamin launched coaster.

2.  Hard-core:  Cedar Point will set records for many years to come with an
Intamin lim-launched ride with a launched lift hill of 350 feet.  The first
drop will reach an angle of 75 degrees and top speed will be just over 100
mph.  There will be ten inversions, including many new maneuvers, never
before attempted.  The ride will hit a record 6.5 g's.  Track length will be
well over 8000 feet long, with a five minute ride duration.  There will be
two lifts.  It will also be a dueling/racing coaster.

Cheers!

CP will announce that the park has recently been acquired by Premier,
which, of course, means they will install a Gotham City area complete
with... Batman: the Ride.

Well, whatever it is, TAER it down!

Whatever it may be, I hope it's Intamin.  Whenever Intamin is involved,
I become e***d.... to an unhealthy level.
