Walker Bay Atop Isuzu Trooper

Walker Bay Atop Isuzu Trooper

I'm buying a Walker Bay 8' dinghy but I have not found a suitable rack
so I can carry it atop my gutterless '95 Isuzu Trooper. I've heard about
Yakima and Thule custom racks but since this is an inexpensive boat, I
am more inclined to get an inexpensive rack. like the one that takes
wooden crossbars, except it should fit on a gutterless Isuzu.

I've read about  "Quik 'N Easy" brackets but I believe they only work on
Isuzus with gutters.

If there is none, then I will have to go with the Yakima or Thule.
Anyway, what specific components should I buy? I've heard about rail
riders and crossbars, etc. but I've never seen them.

I would appreciate some technical assistance.

Thanks and best regards,

Butch

Any place that sells canoes usually has these foam *** blocks that are
affixed to the gunwale and come between the boat and your roof. They're held
in place by the boat being securely tied down to the vehicle. These might
work.

Butch,
As long as the boat is not wider than the Isuzu's roof, the foam blocks
David mentions should work.  I cartopped the longest Grumman canoe on a
number of cars, including a Chevette, using these and they worked great
(kinda funny-looking with the canoe on the roof dwarfing the car).
Plus you get the added bonus of being able to use them on any vehicle, as
opposed to an installed rack. This was great for creek runs when we'd have a
car at start point and a car at end point and bring the blocks along for the
ride.  I'd look into them, they're fairly inexpensive, too.
