As long as the boat is not wider than the Isuzu's roof, the foam blocks
David mentions should work. I cartopped the longest Grumman canoe on a
number of cars, including a Chevette, using these and they worked great
(kinda funny-looking with the canoe on the roof dwarfing the car).
Plus you get the added bonus of being able to use them on any vehicle, as
opposed to an installed rack. This was great for creek runs when we'd have a
car at start point and a car at end point and bring the blocks along for the
ride. I'd look into them, they're fairly inexpensive, too.
