In Dash Depth Finder ( Humminbird - HDR600 ) 2nd try.. Help

I have a Monterey 242 boat with an in-dash depth finder ( Hummingbird -
HDR600) and a through the hull (Hummingbird - XHS-6-16) transducer.  I was
wondering if I upgraded to one of Hummingbird's top end fish finders if this
transducer would still work with them.. If not do you know if another
through the hull transducer would fit in the same hole as the one that works
with this stock in the dash model?  Will this transducer work with another
brand fish finder..??  I am hoping to get a GPS / Fish Finder combined
unit..
Tnx's
PS..  I've contacted Hummingbird and that was a waste of time..  Their idea
of tech help is to cut and paste one of their web pages for you.. ;-(

I'd locate the part number on your transducer and search their web site to
see what other units are in common.
