The manual bilge pump (a Whale Gusher 10) in my recently purchased 10 year
old Hunter 37 was found inoperable in the purchase survey. Dissambly
revealed that it was full of salt crystal which were obstructing normal
operation of the flap valves, and once cleaned operated normally. I'm
guessing that this situation resulted from infrequent use, and plan simply
to use the pump often enough to keep the chamber wet.
Also found some corrosion of the painted aluminum chamber. I thought
about priming and repainting, but have not yet done so. Any thoughts about
the seriousness of this problem and possible solutions?
