Storm covers for hatches

Storm covers for hatches

Please advise:
We are considering joining the Regatta de Amigos (Huston,TX to Vera
Cruz, MX) in May. One of the equipment requirements is hard storm
covers for hatches over 2 sq ft (haven't measured ours yet, but they'd
be close). The hatches (2) are Bomar and have a mid support. Do you
rig this as plywood covering only the 'light' secured with line or a
box covering the whole hatch? I guess I'd lean toward the box, but
then would you have to attach hardware to the deck, rrrr. I've seen
plenty of references to covers but never seen one.
Thanks,
Jim

If you think you need storm covers for your hatches, probably what you need
is better hatches!

IT SOUNDS TO ME LIKE SOMEONE IS MISREADING THE ORC REGS REGARDING PORTLIGHTS.
THOSE REGS REQUIRE STORM COVERS (LEXAN,PLYWOOD OR EQUIV) ON CABIN PORTLIGHTS
THAT ARE LARGER THAN 2 SQ FT IN AREA.  THIS REQUIREMENT DOES NOT APPLY TO
HATCHES, JUST FIXED PORTLIGHTS.  ASK FOR A CLARIFICATION FROM YOUR RACE
COMMITTEE.
